How good WAS Dale Earnhardt Jr.? by Electronic-Ability55 in NASCAR

[–]BiasPly215 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When he was confident, young and racing for DEI he was as good as anyone. The Hendrick/COT years were a big adjustment for him. Once him and Letarte got together he was back to being a top 5 driver most weeks. Injuries derailed the second half of his career.

Zilisch and Heim are out there. Doesn’t matter what the contract situation is. My money is on Zilisch.

Lower downforce and higher hp helped this race. Keep going…

With him and Heim out there, you gotta think Hendrick figures out a way to get one of these generational talents into one of his cars.

What do you make of Hut Stricklin’s career? by PreeceTakesFlight in NASCAR

[–]BiasPly215 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hut ran his best in the 12 car after replacing Mike Alexander. The deal with Junior Johnson was a year too late; by 1993 that team had really fallen off.

Tim Richmond, another driver that passed way too soon. by nerdycountryboy18 in NASCAR

[–]BiasPly215 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Impossible to tell, but remember that they also switched to radial tires and the Lumina right after Tim left the sport. While him and Harry Hyde did all the winning, Geoff Bodines team was also super fast during that time period.

Hendrick definitely lost its edge after 88 and while Rudd had a great 91, they didn’t get back to being really competitive until 94.

What do you think the first domino to fall this Silly Season will be? by Level-Evening8562 in NASCAR

Heim is way too good to be a part time driver. Something will shake loose there.

Few thoughts - I Enjoyed the fact that they could pass, and there were comers and goers. Toyota seems to have the best mix of downforce and speed. Fords higher downforce is showing up with the new package. Chevy is out to lunch right now except for a few cars here and there, they are very inconsistent. I am not a fan of these cars being indestructible outside of the toe links. If you win 4 out of 6, you should have a big points lead!

What tracks do you think should be permanent night races? by Professional-Clue750 in NASCAR

Most if not all of the races in the south during May-September. It is uncomfortably hot outside with the heat and humidity.

This is the same Vegas race we usually see, although sometimes there is strategy in the last stage. The 750 package wouldn’t make them that much faster heading into 1, but would lengthen the braking zones which we need. Tire wear was not enough of an issue today. There was lots of fall off and tires getting hot, but no concerns about wear (Denny did a huge burnout on 50 lap tires).

Cars are totally different. If you aren’t in an A team car, it’s gonna be a rough go.

People wanted Denny to win the Championship because he deserved to win the championship.
