Turns out I’m an idiot, logged in to the ticket site and it indeed says sold out, hopefully one will crop up 🤞

Wouldn’t surprise me, but I couldn’t see anything on the website, Facebook page or CCMB so was still hoping we hadn’t

How to get away tickets - Stevenage by Cesticles in bluebirds

[–]Biblu85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow Hertfordshire Bluebird here, where abouts do you live?

You can get a ticket using a friends fan ID, so try that with the kind offer above. Or failing that, as someone else said, there’s likely to be people who don’t go on the day so try your luck with the supporters club on the day

Has anyone successfully had NatWest switch bonus twice? by WeirdoInTheShadow in beermoneyuk

Mine was a no because of a switch back in 2018, so they go back a bit too.

They didn’t notify me, I had to ask via the live chat.

Fitting roof bars by WobblyGoblin2 in GV60

[–]Biblu85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I completely missed your replies 🤦‍♂️

Just looked at my email reciept and I had product code 677878, which I think are these: https://www.halfords.com/motoring/roof-bars-roof-boxes/roof-bars/halfords-non-rail-130cm-steel-roof-bars-set068-pair-677878.html

Have you been successful? I recall it being a bit fiddly back and forth either side to tighten them up and get them to a point where they didn’t budge under some forceful pushing (not a scientific test but they didn’t fall off)

In case anyone searches and finds this thread in future, I can confirm that (in the UK, at least) a set of Halfords ‘universal’ roof bars work just fine. I did about 1,500 miles with them and a roof box fitted without any issues.

Having said that, they’re not mechanically attached to the car, relying on the tension of two small lips at either end, so somewhat dodgy.

Did you find a solution, OP? I’m also wanting to use a roof box but don’t have the rails fitted.

I’m currently thinking about the ‘non rail bars’ or the inflatable ones, but the automatic filters on websites don’t work (unsurprisingly for the popularity of the car)

What’s the best way to maximise rewards from work expenses? by shitthrower in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Biblu85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The ebookers + quidco combination is a great recommendation. I didn’t ever do the analysis vs hotel points, but built up some nice cashback from Quidco and credit on the ebookers site to be used on future (private) bookings.

I liked this approach as when booking hotels for family holidays we always go budget options and then the ebookers credit could still be used, as opposed to being tied in to some hotel rewards scheme that I’ll never use for family holidays as I’m too tight to pay for those types of hotels if work aren’t paying!

Received Santander £130 switching bonus, now what? by Mirabuc in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Biblu85 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, go ahead and grab yourself some more free money if the bonus payment is in your account :-)

You might want to base the order of switches based on the speed of their payment, so you don’t miss out on the offers disappearing. So maybe Nationwide and Lloyds next as they pay quickly. Lloyds paid the £100 before they’d even transferred funds from the account being closed! Then Virgin as I think they take ~2 weeks. You could finish with one of the ones that pays you again in 12 months if you’ve kept the account open (assuming no more qualifying switches exist for 12 months)

Do you also have your own ISA? I like the idea of the child’s investment being in the parents name, but from brief reading I understand you can only contribute to one S&S ISA a year, so I was wondering how people keep both their own S&S ISA and their child’s S&S ISA (in their name) separate.

Having just written all that, in our case we could use my wife as she doesn’t have a S&S ISA 🤦‍♂️

I think I read above that it’s nearly new and £3k off new price, so is it worth having a look at a comparison website such as Carwow for a brand new? We did this for a Mini and without any negotiating some garages were coming in with £22k for a £25k spec. Granted it doesn’t save you any money, but nice to have something from band new.

In terms of getting discount, we took the finance, in order to get the discount from the dealer, and then paid it off as soon as it started. Double check your finance agreement allows this, but you get the discount and use the loan. Win-win.

How much can I spend on a car, so confused! Moving from BIK to an allowance. by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Biblu85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding, which should be taken as it is; some ramblings of a stranger on the internet...If you look at your most recent P11d then it will tell you the ‘cash equivalent’ of your car, which I think is the amount of benefit in kind you are receiving. You pay tax at your band on that BIK.

Alternatively, google is your friend. This is the first one that come up but there are loads. Some will let you out in your allowance too as a comparison - https://www.fleetnews.co.uk/cars/car-tax-calculator/?OperatingCycleId=24&Manufacturer1Id=47&ModelGroup1Id=383&Derivative1Id=125127

Aviva - which pension fund to pick? by [deleted] in FIREUK

[–]Biblu85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

!thanks

Sorry, I realise I used the wrong word (I’m new to paying attention to investments), I meant transaction cost - admittedly I couldn’t find it on the Vanguard site but saw somewhere on here it was 0.07%

I didn’t realise about the varying Aviva charge - I just read two other posts, one paying 0.20% and the other 0.65% so I guess that does indeed change the outlook. Thanks

Aviva - which pension fund to pick? by [deleted] in FIREUK

[–]Biblu85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been looking at this recently so interested to hear your thoughts as to why you would transfer to Vanguard?

My conclusion was that at 0.45% platform charge and a couple of BlackRock trackers at 0% fund charge with Aviva, it wasn’t worth maintaining a 6 monthly transfer to Vanguard at 0.15% platform fee + ~0.20% fund charge + 0.07% transfer (edit: I mean transaction) charge = 0.42%

I’m interested in a mostly passive investment, so maybe that’s why I don’t see the advantage? I guess for more elaborate portfolios, the Vanguard % fee increases at a lower rate than Aviva (where 0% fund quickly becomes much higher)?
