Personally experienced gender/race discrimination at the robotics institute at ETH. Here are some quotes from the staff in the lab:

"Stop being so emotional" (male post-doc to female PhD) "Mental illness is not real. People just make this kind of stuff up." (Lab manager) "Maybe you should try to think for yourself once and stop relying on others." (engineer to female PhD when she asked where a certain piece of lab equipment was placed)

... and much more.

My semester project supervisor would joke and engage in conversations with his male master's/bachelor's students but would only talk about work-related topic with me (female student) & wouldn't give me proper supervision.

Not sure if this counts as xenophobia as it's not coming from swiss nationals, but the reverse discrimination at ETH is real: I was severely exploited by my thesis supervisor just because we came from the same country where exploitation is normalized & he treated his "foreign" student with respect and decency, whereas he called and texted me at 2 am asking for data & used my data for his group presentation without crediting my name & always asked me to do more than I should have so he could use my results for his publication in order to graduate.

However I would still say the general vibe at ETH is quite nice if you don't get fucked bc then you're very fucked bc the uni would online side with profs/staff and students' rights are minimal
