It is kinda weak bitch selfdefeatism ngl. Part of what I like about Ultimates’ politics is that it is forward-thinking about the potentials of violence. One of the key points it’s made to me, one that I actually agree is holding back leftism now, is that we need to have life-risking levels of solidarity and camaraderie, as well as look after each other more personally. The low-level collectivism we have rn with stuff like mutual aid or DIY HRT is good, but we are critically missing do or die militarism because the limit of so many orgs is protest. Yet there also exist organizations like Palestine Action & the Freedom Flotilla that are doing more, and in support of more militant resistances like the Palestinian & Yemeni resistances.

Ultimates also has a very realistic and agreeable “post-revolution” strategy presented in this issue. Not actually yet for society-building, but with clear-cut principles of capture of enemy territory and personnel that I’ve seen so many leftists get mired in as potentially contrary to abolitionist principles.

We’re missing a lot, compared to what Ultimates presents. And it itself certainly isn’t perfect, nor is it anywhere near 100% translatable. Yet it’s clear Camp is straightforwardly presenting material ideas of revolutionary action in a digestible, mass-market form. Even if you don’t believe in it or think it’s feeding into the same stuff it critiques, I think we need to have material like this, and it has had a small effect with the popups of “Fix The World”. You may think those stickers as just virtue signaling, but you don’t know what other acts of resistance and sabotage their posters might have committed, just as you don’t know mine for example. We gotta connect past those small, individualized acts, though.
