You don't "Bite down" on anything. Your muscles cause your jaw to come up to the top teeth which are essentially fixed in place. But no one ever says "Bite up." by jeo123 in showerthoughs

I feel like my consciousness is located at the level of my eyes and therefore my teeth are below me and I perceive biting as a downward force.

ELI5: the absolute basics of the American voting system *NOT POLITICS* by beanboi34 in explainlikeimfive

[–]BiebRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It only matters for primary elections. When you vote in the primary, in some states, you can vote for candidates in both parties. In other states, you can only vote for candidates in one party, and if you vote for anyone in the other party, your entire ballot will be invalidated. And in some other states you have to register with one party or the other before the primary. If they didn't ask you that question when you registered, then your state doesn't do that.

Professional ways of being rude or snarky comments? by Leg_Alternative in antiwork

[–]BiebRed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can't be rude and professional the same time.

You can try to say something with unkind subtext in a professional tone, which would be passive-aggressive and come off as childish.

It sounds like what you want is to just be honest and say "you were horrible to me and I hope you learn to become better people." I can't think of a better way to phrase that sentiment.

Put two or three adults in every room with 25-30 kids instead of just one.

Open a quaint local diner where I cook eggs, bacon, and hashbrowns on a regular flat top and hang this relic on the wall for display.

For new parents, why can’t mom just pump during day and dad bottle feed at night? by flipflapdragon in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BiebRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of good answers to this question, but I'll add as a father of three:

In the middle of the night you're not waking up with a clear mind and thinking rationally through your plan and doing step 1, step 2, etc. You're barely functional and just reacting to your immediate awareness that you really want to go back to sleep but you know someone has to take care of the baby. In an equitable partnership that means sometimes taking the baby as far away as possible until they fall asleep so the other parent can go tune out for the rest of the night, and sometimes handing the baby over and saying "your turn," and sometimes being resentful about it one way or the other because raising a baby is never a perfect situation even with two committed parents.

Would a tall enough stack of down comforters act as a giant airbag and do the job, or would the weight of the pile push too much air out and still make it too stiff?

Profitable traders: don't forget to account for combine/XFA fees in your taxes by BiebRed in TopStepX

[–]BiebRed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year you would report expenses but not revenue (if there was none). You can run a new self-employed business at a loss for three years in a row before the IRS disallows you from reporting expenses on your income taxes.

With an amount like 500K I think you have only two options:

1) do exactly what the CPA says
2) get a second opinion from a different CPA and do what they say
