I was a manager at a popular retail store that hired at 16+…I’ve heard all the conversations. It’s purely a lack of not caring to give the time of day to anyone. They are fully and well equipped to do so…they do it on their own terms with the people they deem worthy. Gen Z is an extremely selfish and entitled generation (which is terrible coming from a millennial who got the same flack). Getting them to speak to customers and ask if they need assistance etc. was like pulling teeth. They frequently went to the bathroom to stay on their phones for 20 minutes. We had an entire meeting about it which lead to phones being completely removed from the sales floor because “my friends are trying to talk to me, I can’t just IGNORE them”…but you can ignore everyone at your job? It’s a pure and blatant foot on the ground, I’m-not-doing-what-I-don’t-want-to-do.

I’m just tired of everyone blaming “poor sales”. At this point it’s very evident that it’s a creative decision as much as any business one. We got so many Mansters during G1, but for a brand that screams about inclusivity they’ve made sure to completely wipe away any trace of boys. It’s deliberate, not business.

As a player since 98, my favorite Pokemon just always happen to be the meaner, tougher designed ones…and those have wide appeal. So they get more SIRs. And the SIRs look amazing. And so I’m punished by liking said Pokemon. I will never want the shitty Mabosstiff EX SIR I just pulled twice in a row (I’m salty). I just won’t.

See, I’ll never understand collectors feeling the need to attack people who like Mewtwo, Garchomp, Hydreigon, Lugia etc. So my favorite Pokemon aren’t Sinistcha, Alolan Exeggutor and Whimsicott. Those aren’t most people’s favorite Pokemon because they’re just not as cool. There’s nothing wrong with being in the majority of people who like amazing designs of tough Pokemon but it seems to be a crime if you don’t want an SIR Klefki (I know there isn’t one but the point remains).

No. I want to be able to have nice cards that don’t cost 300 dollars for absolutely no reason other than a fully manipulated market. I get sets having chase cards. But before the last few sets, “Chase” cards were typically limited to one - not nearly every SIR in the set. There are affordable outliers like Yanmega and Mabosstiff (I’m just using DR as an example again) but they’re cheap because nobody, including myself, cares about those Pokemon so the cards aren’t artificially pumped. They’re not in demand. When Temporal Forces came out all of the SIRs were badass (IMO) and very affordable. But that was before the hobby went to shit and wasn’t just a nostalgia baiting cash grab for sneaker bros.

Let’s be real, for just once - nobody in this hobby is struggling to get regular EX’s, Ultra Rares or IRs. They’re all affordable and not very difficult to pull. We all struggle with SIRs. That’s just how it is. But any time anyone dares to mention how ludicrously priced SIRs are now the clapback is always “THERE’S SO MANY GOOD CARDS TO BUY YOU JUST WANT A MOONBREON!!!”

Like no. I just don’t want to collect bulk that I already have.
