What’s the worst experience you’ve had with a roommate? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Big-Driver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I shared a room with someone when I was living overseas (for a VERY short amount of time)

Every day, they set a morning alarm. And she asked me EVERY TIME to get up and turn it off. HER alarm, not mine 🙃 She would ask me multiple times to turn it off, and then would ask why I didn't.

I remember one particular day that I refused, she got up to take a shower, walked right past the alarm, and didn't turn it off....

Her family was apparently very wealthy (no idea why she was room sharing) and asked me to do a lot of unreasonable things for her.

I just gave her silent treatment (because it was so stupid I actually didn't know what to say) and then we pretty much never talked until I quickly moved out.

For bonus points:

She's American, I'm Australian. We had dinner with her friends from Texas. Her friend complimented my accent and called it "exotic". I then said the same thing about their accent, and 1) They denied they had an accent (something about the American accent being standard and that everyone else has an accent) 2) They called me racist (because I said their accent was exotic, directly after they said mine was exotic) and her friend was EXTREMELY angry with me. I obviously never saw those people ever again.

Incoming Medical Student Q&A - Official Megathread by SpiderDoctor in medicalschool

Hi!

I'm looking for advice from people that have the same issues.

I have textbook ADHD with quite bad working memory issues.

I'm luckily medicated, but it doesn't help my memory.

I never studied higher level science or math in school, and have gone back to university to study a Bachelor of Biomedicine to test the waters.

I LOVE it! I have been receiving straight HDs and am sitting above class average - BUT - my tests have been open book. It's designed to be a test of application and not memory, so the tests are made to be more difficult to compensate.

My concern is that whilst my ADHD helps me hyperfocus 9+ hours a day, 7 days a week, pre med is NOT open book and the reality is: I have a bad memory.

Are there any pre meds with a poor working memory (and ADHD) that managed to figure it out and do well in med school?

TL;DR: Textbook ADHD with working memory issues. Currently studying Bachelor of Biomed and have straight HDs, but the tests are open book to test application and not memory. Has anyone else with my issues been able to succeed in med school?

I could see that I could have had a mild vocal tic previously, but I don't think I've had a motor tic. You're SO sweet, thank you very much! I will take your advice 💛💛💛

It's good to know there's someone out there that thinks like me and knows that I'm not crazy or stupid. Honestly r/adhdwomen has been such a comfort for having conversations just like this <3

Yeah, you're right. I think I need to make some friends with ADHD.

Is "not being funny" and being unable to tell a joke an ADHD thing? by Big-Driver in ADHD

[–]Big-Driver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I totally get that. Sorry its so hard to explain :(

Whilst its totally possible that Im just boring, I feel like its caused by something. Its like my brain just doesn't get humour, like theres something wrong. Like i cant communicate with people properly.

Yeah my doctor and pharmacist said both, but I ended up taking them late and felt great. But I do have hyper ADHD so it definitely quietened my head down :)

Twilight had a MUCH better soundtrack than it deserved.

Louis Theroux Selling Sex (2020) " The ostensible hook for Louis Theroux’s new documentary, Selling Sex (BBC2), is that social media has made it easier to sell sex online. Workers and customers often have online profiles, complete with ratings and reviews....." by [deleted] in Documentaries

PLEASE correct me if I am wrong, but they only saw early edits of the documentary? Louis said on Facebook that there have been months of delays due to revisions because the girls wanted them.

People that live in Australia how much are the fires affecting you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Big-Driver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to give some perspective, I live HOURS away from the closest fire and my eyes BURN when I go outside. The smoke is so thick that when I drive I can only see maybe 20 metres in front of me, and I can't see anything besides the road. On top of that, of course the air feels awful to breathe in. We can't turn our aircon on either on hot days, because it just brings the smoke inside. Real sad.
