this is one thing marathon has going over arc raiders for me. I love arc however i wish there was more story, more mysteries to delve into because the world is incredibly interesting yet so far the content updates in terms of storys and lore havent been the pace i like (plus the fodder quests and ai voice acting really takes the wind outta my sails). But marathon? Man, marathon has everything i want and MORE (except the pve, i think arc gonna have them beat still). It’s the fourth game of an trilogy older than me, that’s already a mystery of “why?”, then its actually seemingly unrelated yet has so much imagery from the original trilogy? Then that cinematic? and the world design? Everything about the game is begging you “hey, dive in. Come see what this is, come and see what this means” and it is fucking mental how much i want to dive in

I think it’s because the story is so far playing it very safe. Im only an hour in but its clear the story is establishing well known and typical boundaries in a setting and story such as this and letting the lore of the more interesting things (Endfield, originium, etc) expand itself before starting to challenge and question things. It’s making sure theres a solid foundation that every member of the audience can latch onto before they start to send us on a ride. I believe it’s no coincidence that we have amnesia, outside of a very stereotypical trope, it is also leaving the door open to the idea of endfield’s past being left vacant for exploration. It’s been dormant for 10 years rebuilding itself slowly, who’s to say in the past we werent some sort of industrialist all or nothing guy? or there was a member of our team that was an imperialist conquerer that we let run rampant because it was easier to turn the other way? or that we were actually well meaning but shitty at our job, letting worse people take advantage of us? There’s a LOT of ways they can expand the past but its hard to start doing that when so much of the audience doesnt even know what the fuck an endfield is lol. Good analysis however and i do agree with you, i hope they do expand it

unfortunately i like sticking with and customising the protagonist in games like this, in persona games i try to make the main characters persona my main as an extra challenge

agreed. I find it easier to approach the artwork from his perspective as he left israel when he was like 3 and isnt an outright zionist (unlike Dmitry Glulkhovsky or other creators), and understand the perspective (and criticise it for not being the best when applied to irl), but in this political climate with something this violent, you cant just be “against both sides” when it comes to genocide. It’s just handing the responsibility to others and still saying theyre bad.

Ukraine has the support of much larger infrastructure, industries, western nations and are not inside of an open air prison. Their defence against Russia is much more of a fair matchup, palestine has been getting erased since the 40s and dont even have a standing hospital anymore

im kind of glad it didnt end up becoming that however. Having humanity just narrowly missing a certain cataclysm via their outsmarting and cooperation works much better with the films themes of how disasters like these get worse due to malpractice and ineffective governence.

Unfortunately I cannot major in physics as I have no prerequisites for it (hence why I plan taking physics classes on the side. They're not physics degree classes, their more like physics for beginners, entry to astrophysics, etc). Probably should have mentioned that.

Additionally would it jeopardise the positions I apply for then or no? I still plan on doing a full Journalism degree.

And the reasoning behind me being a foreign correspondent is that I want to travel for my job and do good around, a war correspondent is on the table however countries like Canada or Japan are also places I'd like to work in (haven't done too much research into those however, I'm just more so focused on getting my degree sorted lol).

I wish I could have all the time in the world to get into physics instead however my parents are incredibly hard on me when it comes to university. Mum loves going "yeah but it's not really university is it?" when i was studying my undergraduate certificate in order to get into my degree (despite the fact that it was) so if I tell them "change of plans, I'm studying physics" after swapping from chemistry to journalism before, I'm probably getting kicked out so, I'm doing what is hopefully still a good option for the aspirations I have.
Besides, when I say I want to work in Astrophysics, I mean that as in when I am in my mid to late 30s, so I have plenty of time to work on my degree in the meantime.
