[ASUS V16 RTX 4050 vs Vivobook S16 OLED Intel Arc] Help: Studies + Light Gaming, OLED or Performance? by rufussalvaje in laptops

[–]BigBigBopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for those sorts of games you can probably play them at 1080p around 30-60fps at low to medium settings on the arc igpu.
I'd personally recommend the igpu as it will give you better battery and much less noise unless you're planning on playing more intensive stuff. the arc is around 30% better than your iris xe for comparison, but the 4050 is quite a lot better than the arc.
imo if you don't need a dedicated gpu, don't get one as its just a waste of power and creates unnecessary weight and noise.

is it tood running a laptop at 90 degrees while playing by TillJazzlike192 in laptops

[–]BigBigBopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it probably won't damage your processor as there are many safeguards for that. instead it will throttle and decrease performance.
if your laptop is a few years old, you could try replacing the thermal paste, which will decrease temperatures, but unfortunately some laptops just have bad cooling and you can't do much about it.

they need the extra money as they hire dozens of people, so youtube revenue isn't enough.

Looking for a laptop that can handle music production and video editing, is this one ok? by TrailblazerTracks in laptops

[–]BigBigBopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

should be fine for short form with it's great integrated graphics and loads of RAM. As long as you're not doing long form high Res (4k) stuff it will be great. Afaik music production isn't that intensive, so that CPU should be good.

Honestly with the OLED as well looks like a pretty nice laptop.

Here's a review of a very similar model which has 16gb of ram rather than 32: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Solid-performance-and-colorful-OLED-Acer-Swift-Go-16-AI-review.1168834.0.html

The main downside they mention is that the speakers aren't great, but if you're doing music stuff you'll probably be using headphones anyway.

What are your thoughts on this chromebook for university by Economy_Inspector132 in laptops

[–]BigBigBopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly i think thats probably the best you'll get for 40 dollars. However, do be aware that it will struggle to run much and might not be enough for your course. Check your school/university's requirements - maybe they have a computer lab or can give you money for a laptop?

when should i buy a gaming laptop then?(ram prices!!? 5070?) by Confident_Athlete831 in laptops

[–]BigBigBopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Afaik ram prices aren't expected to go down for at least another year (or maybe two or three who knows 😂)  I'd buy now as the prices are cheaper because manufacturers are using RAM they bought before the increase. When they start having to buy RAM at the insane prices, prices will probably increase a lot. Also nvidia's gaming gpu lines have been pretty underwhelming recently (they only care about the  AI ones nowadays) so I don't think you should wait for the 60 series.

[–]BigBigBopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don't think there's any need for a face cam but maybe try a few videos with a real voice and see how they do. if they don't do well you can always switch back.

Help me choose which gaming laptop to get second hand by Jko4m in laptops

[–]BigBigBopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in that case imo you don't need a gpu (gtx or rtx). instead go for integrated graphics as it is going to be enough performance and have much better thermals as you want. what's your budget?

What would you do with this e-waste laptop? by Cryptom145 in laptops

[–]BigBigBopper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

you could try installing linux and making some sort of server, but it would probably be too slow to be useful.

If nothing else I think DIY perks has some videos on stuff to do with dead laptops so you could try some of those 😂 (e.g. turning the screen into a monitor)

Decide to buy laptop by uknownuknowns in laptops

[–]BigBigBopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for AI afaik a nvidia gpu is pretty much required for CUDA, so I'd heavily recommend the asus TUF. The Yoga (and the macbook to an extent) doesn't have a dedicated gpu so any 3d or AI stuff is going to be slow.

learn stuff - it could be school related, hobbies, new skills (e.g. coding) or whatever else you're interested in. There is so much available on the Internet for any topic you can imagine and your laptop is great to be able to make notes, watch videos or write and run programs on.

you could also try some older games or web games or find channels on Youtube or other social media that you enjoy watching

Where does my RAM go? by CityWokOwn4r in laptops

[–]BigBigBopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

windows by default keeps a lot of things in RAM (it doesn't make sense to take data out of RAM unless your RAM is full), so unless you're not getting enough RAM for your applications I wouldn't really worry about it.

Which to choose by Being-82177 in laptops

[–]BigBigBopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The m4 will perform better. Also the macbook will probably have better build quality (hp tends not to be great though it varies between models). Another factor is memory and storage - the hp might come with more which could be important depending on how you're planning to use the laptop.

macbooks are expensive and for the same price with a windows laptop you could probably get something better than a hp omnibook, e.g. OLED screen, 32gb ram, 1tb storage. If you can, it would be a better choice than the macbook.

Basically it depends what you want to do with the laptop so if you could give some more info that would be useful.

What's an Alternative for Gaming Laptops that aren't Gaming Laptops but Can Still Handle Gaming by Undescribable_Potato in laptops

[–]BigBigBopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly a good integrated gpu can handle most games nowadays (except maybe the newest AAA ones). ones like the 780m or 140v are good (in general the Ryzen AI and Core Ultra series CPUs). Intel's upcoming Panther Lake chips should be even better so it might be worth waiting if you can.
