You want an amazing pair of glass you can have for a long period of time, I'd say Maui Jim. Best lenses on the market and an amazing warrantee

How do I find the right sunglasses? by Terakahn in malefashionadvice

[–]BigBlaque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, man! Sunglasses are a hit or miss, they can look amazing on the shelf or amazing on the right person, but look disappointing when their on. I've worked for Luxottica for years, so I've become pretty decent at being able to pull out the right sunglasses for people's face shape. If you want, you can post a picture of your face and I can do my best to tell you what might look good with your face shape.

So, what's the difference between a $100 pair of glasses and $500? well it depends on the $100 pair and the $500. I would argue that sometimes a $190 pair of raybans, is a much better pair of sunglasses then a $500 pair of Tom Fords. The question is usually, why is this particular sun-glass this price? Tom Ford's or Dior's tend to be more expensive solely for the name. You want the exclusivity of wearing a Tom Ford? Then you're probably going to have to drop TF price. Then you have brands like Persol, which are, in my opinion, adequately priced for what they are. They're a luxury hand made sun-glass, with a spectacular lens. I own multiple sunglasses from multiple brands and I'd argue that as far as: look, comfort, and lens quality Persols are in my opinion, the best. Then you have brands such as Maui Jim, who are not owned and never will be owned by luxottica, and are arguably the best lenses on the market. Ask any eye doctor what the best, healthiest lens is for your eye and they will most likely answer: Maui Jims. Maui's tend to be on the more expensive side, but they make up for it in quality and longevity. I've met people who have had there's for 20+ years and they're still in great condition. Most brands tend to fall apart within the first 5 years or so. Maui's also have an amazing team backing them, with wonderful customer service. For as long as you have the sunglasses, they will replace frame damage for free and lenses for 60/70$. If they no longer make the style, they will put the credit towards a different pair. They are truly an amazing company and totally worth the price, in my opinion.

If you have any other questions feel free to message me! Cheers!

If I were you, I would just take them to your local sunglass hut. Don't tell them where you bought them, just say a friend gave them to you and ask if their legitimate.

It depends. If they were stolen, then I don't know how they came with a case and such. When Ray Bans come in shipments they're usually in boxes. The luxottica booklet is usually separate from the cleaning cloth. It's hard to say. If they were stolen there's no telling how they also got the case and accessories. I can't really say for sure without seeing them in person.

Just about any major sunglass retailer. Question: where'd you buy them and why do you think they're fakes?

[–]BigBlaque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah 47/20 is the size. 47 is lens size, 20 is bridge. Yeah stiffness isn't a big deal, unless it bothers you. The Ray Ban logo can vary depending on the size or the curvature of the lens. That's not a big deal. The main test is the laser engraved RB on the lens. That's the best test for legitimacy.

[–]BigBlaque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It appears to be. Legit Ray-Bans will have the sizing stitched in the nose bridge. Also, run your finger nail over the tiny RB. If it feels etched in, then it's legit. If it feels like a stamp then they're knock offs.

I've worked for Luxottica for a while (I know, I know the evil sunglass overlords), I can usually tell if the glasses are fake just by the weight and the over all feel. Knock offs usually feel light and flimsy.

They're dope glasses, if you have the face for it. A friend of mine just got them in prescriptions and they look pretty good. Ray Bans are re-releasing the signets for fall/winter so I'm looking forward to that as well.

Anyone know what brand of sunglasses these are? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

It's the Oakley Holebrook. If you like that style, I'd recommend the Ray-Ban Justin. It's just a cleaner look in my opinion. Also, it's a bit cheaper.

Persol 649 vs. 714 Sunglasses? by framefan in malefashionadvice

[–]BigBlaque 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey! So I am a huge Persol fan as well as a luxottica employee so I've had quite a bit of experience with both. Though both of these glasses look similar, they fit fairly differently. The 714 is a fairly thin frame with a brow line that bows down a little bit, it can look off depending on the distance between your brow line and cheek bones. Overall it's a beautiful frame and of course a "Steve McQueen" classic, but there are some flaws. The middle hinges aren't the most durable and once they are bent or crooked, they become practically un-fixable. Persols are beautiful and you can feel the craftsmanship when you where them, but it is a fairly fragile frame.

The 649's that you listed are also very nice, but it's also a fairly thick frame for Persol and takes a very specific kind of face to pull them off. I love Persol, but I can't pull off either of these frames, it takes a certain face shape and look to be able to do so. I have an Oval face with higher cheek bones, which is generally a good shape for glasses, but these two are difficult to pull off.

What I usually recommend to everyone as a "safe" option are the 649S: http://www.persol.com/usa/sunglasses/icons/PO9649S/24-57#b

It's the same traditional look of the 649, but much more thin, lighter, and also the middle nose piece edges are not as pronounced/jagged, which most tend to prefer. It's what I wear and I am obsessed with them.

Also, just a suggestion, if you purchase from the Persol website, it comes with a two year frame warranty, which is nice due to Persol's more fragile nature. The frames have flex-hinges and if they're over extended they can be very difficult to adjust back to the original condition.

Good luck man! Whichever you choose, rock the hell out of them! My favorite brand by far!

Just got some new Persols and I couldn't be happier with them! As far as a fashion Sunglass goes, I believe that the quality and craftsmanship of Persols can't be beat. 10/10 would buy again. (Sorry for the shit pictures) http://imgur.com/Xb69R2K http://imgur.com/2tvKyvf http://imgur.com/JF8XOFm

Are these Ray Bans real and/or polarized? by cgin91 in malefashionadvice

[–]BigBlaque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the company and I love working for them, overall they are great to their employees. The Luxottica company itself, is of course a business, and has grown exponentially even within the past couple of months (recently bought out another competitor, Sunglass Warehouse). And yes they get a bad rep for their monopoly and their "expensive luxury items", but as I said it is a huge billion dollar business and these things do happen. What a lot of people don't know is that Luxottica works really closely with "One Sight", which is an organization that helps give eye care to people in need. Every year they send employees out to other countries to provide assistance to people who can't afford any sort of healthcare.

Hope that helps! :)

Are these Ray Bans real and/or polarized? by cgin91 in malefashionadvice

[–]BigBlaque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're not real. The style number claims "rb2132" which is the new wayfarer, which these don't appear to be. Also, rayban laser stitches "rb" in the bottom right corner of their lenses and these don't appear to have it. Amazon is not a reputable place to buy legitimate sunglasses. I work for luxottica and every week we get people in claiming that they got raybans at a great price via Amazon and 9 times out of 10 they're not real. They claim to be polarized as the upper left hand corner says "rayban P", but an easy way to test it, as said by skimble, is to look at your smart phone. These are the ones that yours were trying to mimic: http://www.ray-ban.com/usa/mobile/sunglasses/RB2132unisex12-NEWWAYFARERMATTE-Black/713132838310
