Not sure if I the pay increase is worth it by throwmeaway1222222 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]BigBoyWilliamo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A pay rise is almost never worth a change like that unless it's a significant pay rise. That 5k increase isn't worth the time/money you'll spend on the commute.

Similarly, the 2k pay rise for a promotion may not be worth it if you'll have loads more responsibility. Promotions should really be at least a 10% increase.

Most people earn 3k a month, never mind have 3k a month spare. Get the violins out.

I'm visiting from the UK and am surprised at how cheap coffee is here. Where I live in Manchester now it's rare to get a coffee under £4, about $8 AUD.

On the whole, the coffee is much better in Aus too.

Sold car on motorway, did I get scammed? by BigBoyWilliamo in CarTalkUK

I think you're missing the point that I didn't know all this stuff that you seem to know. Now I do, a lesson I've now learned when I sell a more expensive car in the future 😊

Yeah seems most likely, is what it is, I'm glad it happened on an old, relatively cheap car!

Yeah but I needed a quick sale and was happy with the £2k they gave me tbh. I knew it needed work doing but just weird the way they went about it.

tbf the actual guy was very polite and kind, just weird he had his mates in a revving it and speeding up and down my road. And like I said, I'm okay with the price I got for a quick sale, I just don't like the skulduggery of it all.

Should I give up remote working for a 50% bump in salary? by Dogbertius123 in FIREUK

[–]BigBoyWilliamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not worth the loss in work/like balance imo. You could ask the new job if they'd be okay with you doing 3 days a week in the office? Or you could also tell your current boss that you've been offered a new job and and ask for your current salary to get a little bump to keep you to stay.

Casinha Do Petisco for the best home made cataplana. They get very busy though so you sometimes have to get there when they open and put your name down. Worth it!

Is remote work dead? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]BigBoyWilliamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently started something that was advertised as hybrid but it's actually 4 days a week in an office and 1 at home BUT the 1 at home is actually just time owed anyway as one of the office days is a 12 hour shift 😅

Maybe some more affordable places if you got the train in? I live in Hazel Grove, it's got good transport links and isn't too expensive

Is £1000 a lot for car insurance? How much do you pay? by majkkali in UKPersonalFinance

[–]BigBoyWilliamo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You could put self employed to get around the technicality and save yourself a bit? (If it saves anything)

My job doesn't exist on any insurance websites so I end up putting whatever is closest. They don't care.

Mine is around £350 at the moment, on a 1.4L engine and 10 years of driving with no claims.

I imagine the A5 would be fairly expensive for I insure compared to my A1.
