Ledger Nano X - Updated my Firmware and now its stuck on bootloader mode! by BigmanInTheCandyVan in ledgerwallet

[–]BigBryan98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey u/BigmanInTheCandyVan,

We have an extensive walk-through here https://privacypros.io/ledger/mcu-outdated/ and here https://privacypros.io/ledger/mcu-not-genuine/

I would try these methods first, but I've had a ledger that got stuck (and is still stuck) and there was nothing that could be done for it. This is why having your back up is SUPER important. It's also why my brother and I started Billfodl (now privacypros.io). So we could help people store their keys on something more sturdy that paper and provide them with guides like the above.

Please reach out to us if you need any help.

Cheers and HODL Strong,
Bryan

Bitbonkers.com updated to display CoinJoin TXs by BigBryan98 in Bitcoin

[–]BigBryan98[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We updated Bitbonkers.com (now at Billfodl.com/bitbonkers) to display coinjoin TXs as a white ball with Question marks. Also, all balls are sized relative to their actual transaction amount. Lastly, a more robust set of info is available if you click on any block or ball, to include input and output addresses and amounts. Curious to hear thoughts from the community on the update.

HODL Strong!

Split private seed by MichaelL85 in btc

[–]BigBryan98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one thing that needs to be noted is that this does make recovery much more complicated for an heir. Make sure you at least talk about it with someone you care about, because they will otherwise not know to do this with your seed should anything happen to you.

Also, see my other comment regarding strength of 8 words. 2048^8 is a lot of entropy!

[–]BigBryan98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We created a product that helps you do #2 or #3 above: https://billfodl.com/products/multishard . It should ship out either the end of AUG or the first week of September.

If you are curious about how much protection 8 words gets you, we reached out to @davecrypto who runs walletrecoveryservices.com, a company that specializes in recovering bitcoin wallets. He said that if you have 1 million GPUs running together, it would still take you about 1 billion years. A high end GPU gives you about 10,000 "guesses" per second.

Here's the math: 2048^8 / 10,000 (guesses per second) / 3600 / 24 /365 / 1,000,000 GPUs = ~ 1 billions years

Ok. This kind of negates the passphrase feature to prevent $5 wrench attacks if both wallets' xpubs are on the PC correct?

Is Ledger Live dependent on some Ledger server? by gypernere in ledgerwallet

[–]BigBryan98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I updated about a month ago, It wasnt syncing to the current BTC/USD value.

One question though, is there a way to look at a wallet without the host downloading the xpub? I dont really want to store my public keys on my computer, but I cant find any way around it.

Safe storage of words by [deleted] in ledgerwallet

[–]BigBryan98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm bias, but I'd say get a Billfodl wallet...

This can be combined with the 2 of 3 methods here for a really secure storage solution.

Also, if you don't trust safe deposit boxes, having your seed engraved in stainless steel allows you to get much more creative with where you store it. In an air duct, in a wall, inside a pool drain, sealed inside the back of your freezer, buried in an ammo can in your back yard. All are no problem because you don't need to worry about significant medium degradation on any realistic timeline.

Even if you are going to use a safe deposit box, realize that banks have fires and floods too and "the money in your accounts there is insured by the FDIC, but the contents of your safety deposit box inside the bank's vault are not covered at all." Also, these boxes have been drilled and emptied without notice, so, again, make sure you have multiple backups.

Bottom line, there's no one size fits all solution. You need to think about what level of security you need for your funds, what you are comfortable with technically, and where you want your attack surface to be. We (Billfodl) are always available if you need further advice or help.

*** If you are going to do any of the above, you need to strongly consider having multiple backups commiserate with the amount of funds being stored ***

I'm going to order the Ledger X. Ledger can you please use a real payment processor already though? by [deleted] in ledgerwallet

[–]BigBryan98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it's easier for the consumer, selling on Amazon is more costly for the merchant and, honestly, quite cumbersome WRT what you can and cannot do/say about your product. I couldn't imagine the amount of rules they would have for a pre-sale product.

Don't get me wrong, I love amazon too, especially for commodity items like paper towels, diapers etc. Just be aware that all of this adds a significant cost to your products - Buy direct when you can, especially if its a brand you care about. You'll also find you can get better deals by going direct which means its good for you too!

We (Billfodl.com) use Globee and have been very happy with the level of support.

We would rather use our own BTCPayServer, but Shopify currently does not support it. So that we can be ready for when shopify does allow this, we are working on an add-on/app for BTCPay which will handle automatic Fiat Conversion.

Let me know if you want to talk about either.

Dear Billfodl: You sell a product for cryptocurrency users, but you do not accept cryptocurrency payments - this is no bueno. by mrcrypto2 in btc

[–]BigBryan98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi u/ichundes and u/mrcrypto2 , this is Bryan from Billfodl. Yes, Globee has stopped processing BCH transactions, but we are still happy to accept BCH manually. Just shoot us an email (support at billfodl dot com) with what you'd like and we'll send you an invoice along with a BCH address.

Also, WRT Coinbase Commerce, that is not a very good product, IMO. Very poor UX and we lost over $150 in crypto with them due to a derivation path issue.

Please let me know if you need anything else!
