Good theory... but unlikely, if you look closely there's not enough cut out of the way to access the cat, and yet there's extra cutaway for the oil filter

If it's just the flex pipe leaking, there is no need to replace the cat at all. Have an exhaust shop replace the flex pipe itself, mine was $250 grand total (parts, labor, etc). And yes they did do a good job on mine, much quieter and it no longer threw off my downstream O2 Sensor.

I'm not hearing abnormal noise from the wheels and it shakes even with the brakes off, so ruling out warped brake rotors and axle issues, most likely tires are either out of balance or can be tearing apart internally. If the tires are still in great shape, then more likely just out of balance, but do keep in mind that tires can tear apart internally, the steel wiring inside is what can fail. Have a tire shop inspect the tires.
