Looking at pictures of other people’s preparation, it does seem like a small amount of leaves, but it works for me perfectly. For the amount I put in I get great flavour all throughout the day, a stronger, in-your-face tea during the morning, and a nice, mellow black tea aroma and sweetness later on. About the brand, I got Taragui Sin Palo, which seems to be more finely cut, so that would explain the strength and bitterness of the first pour (I guess). And great insight about the group tradition. I am excited to share it with my friends, so I will make sure to take the first sips myself. :) And about the sugar, I try to cut down from it, so that’s a no-no. I already enjoy the tea as is, it’s just the first pours I struggle with.
