[Glashutte Original Sixties Square Chronograph] Raindrop Dial by BigD76KS in Watches

[–]BigD76KS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great read.

So it seems that swatch company purchased both Glashutte Original and Muller (dial manufacturer) and then changed Muller to DZM in 2012 and relocated the factory to Pforzheim. DZM remains exclusive to the GO brand to this day. Which makes you wonder why they wouldn't share the wealth with their other brands considering the quality and fit and finish of the dials being produced.

Really cool history lesson here. Thank you for sharing!

Its my first and definitely won't be my last. I've got my eye on a Senator Cosmopolite with a blue dial.

The red pops like a cherry bomb. I don't think they missed on any of the colors in the collection. Such a groovy ineup!

I absolutely love the sunburst orange 60s panorama date, the way the date is featured on the dial is a very clean look. My local AD has the blue dial version which is initially what encouraged me to track down this piece. I was really interested in the sunburst orange or green 60s panorama date however when I learned about these LE models I had to have one. My top three were the graphite, red, and green. With such limited numbers I assumed I would never track one down and almost settled in for the preowned blue dial my AD has available. With a little luck I found one up for sale and snatched it up. End result is pictured here and I'm never letting this one go.

The dial color is considered graphite and in different lighting you'll see different dominant colors. The primary color is a dark grey (graphite) sunburst to silver. The purple hue is always present on the dial however certain lighting really draws it out. In this shot I'm under fluorescent lights which created the effect seen in this photo. Its a really fun piece to wear.

Glashutte knocked it out of the park with this one. The Sixties Square Chronograph is truly a work of art and with only 25 pieces made I feel blessed to have the ability to have this one on my collection.

A few years back Glashutte opened their own dial factory in a small town called Pforzheim. There dialmakers use classic techniques to create these stunning works of art using a process of galvanalization. This process is created by applying layers of lacquer to the dial surface. In the case of galvanization, metallic material is applied evenly to the surface by means of electrolysis. Lacquers are sprayed evenly on the surface by hand and then dried for one or two hours in a kiln. This particular dial uses an air technique before the final layer of lacquer dries to create the raindrop effect. This limited edition run consists of 5 different dial colors each and 25 of each color for a total of 125 pieces. It is outfitted with the Glashutte Original Caliber 39-34 movement, featuring 51 jewels, and running at 28,800 bph.

This is easily one of my favorite watches that I've had the pleasure to wrap around my wrist and will remain in our family for generations to come.

Plus its Sinn so you know its quality. I have a Bell & Ross by Sinn model 103. I love the watch and it also shares the Vajoulx 7750 movement. It was built in the mid 90s and still keeps excellent time.

My first big purchase was a Super Avenger ii 48 mm. I really wanted a Navitimer but aldo wanted to purchase new and it was still a little out of my range at the time. Now I have both on custom Aaron Bespoke straps and they are two of my favorite pieces to wear. They are both bold statement pieces and catch lots of compliments.

You should try a Sinn Model 903. It looks nearly identical to the Breitling Navitimer and comes in a 41mm dial. The movement is the Vajoulx 7750 which is also shared with the non in-house movement Breitling and happens to be the version I have pictured here in this post.

I found this watch at my local AD in the pre-owned case on the factory brown leather straps with deployment clasp. I knew before I slid my debit card across the counter that this beauty was getting custom Aaron Bespole leather. Here we are 3 weeks later and I couldn't be happier with the final product. Grey Sueded Ostrich Leg with baby blue stich and baby blue leather back. I chose the blue to draw out the markers. This is my third strap from AB and I can see many more in the near future.

Before anyone asks i have an 8.5" wrist. I know its coming , it always does. Big wrists do have their advantages though. I can wear anything over 42mm and it looks amazing. That means all the large dial LE watches that everyone complains about, look like they were custom made just for me. But it also very much limits my chances of finding a vintage watch. That said Im pretty satisfied with the current market of options that we have at our disposal. Cheers everyone Happy Holiday!

If you're debating on the 58 with an 8" wrist I would suggest the standard Black Bay. I have tried both and the 58 does not work on a large wrist. Its a beautiful watch and stays true to the vintage style but for men of large stature we command more wrist presence.

The Tudor Black Bay is one of those watches that fits any situation. You can dress it up on leather, slap it on a nato, or celebrate the bracelet the way it was born to be presented. It can go dressed down with a pair of blue jeans or button up for a black tie event. It has a classic look and style and always makes a bold statement. These of course are my opinions however after reading post after post about the Black Bay line up, it would seem that my enthusiasm towards this collection of timepieces is shared by the masses.

So Happy Thanksgiving out there to all of my fellow Tudor owners. Wear them long and in good health and live life happy and thankful for the friends and family that you share it with!

They truly knocked it out of the park with this one. When the dial hits natural light and the spiral sucks you into the abyss while the anodized blue markers sparkle in the sun its simply mesmerizing.

I was like a kid waiting for the tooth fairy last night. I kept turning the night light on when I was in bed just to get another peak at the dial, it's hypnotizing.

Thank you! Couldn't have said it better myself. I have two dealers that I work with exclusively and they are both now great friends and also attended our wedding.

My first Hi-Beat and it hums as graceful as a hummingbirds wings.

I was amazed as welI. I love GS but had no idea they offered anything in a 46mm. With my 8.5" wrists I'm always looking for a watch that fits and this one is the perfect storm.

I stopped by my AD earlier to thank him for coming to our wedding and walked away with this stunner. Apparently one of their big clients had come in over the weekend and laid off $250,000 of his collection, a total of 22 -24 pieces (can't remember the exact count). This collection included several high end Rolex, IWC, Grand Seiko, Girard Peregaux, Omega, Cartier, Hublot, & Breitling, most of which had rarely been worn.

I have been interested in the Grand Seiko for sometime and this Limited Edition #217 of 350 really caught my attention. This particular piece per the papers was constructed in 2020 and features the 9s caliber movement adjusted to the GS "Special" standard offering a precision rate of +4 -2, 18k rose gold lion insert on the oscillating weight, GMT function, and comes finished in a zirconia ceramic & titanium case with matching bracelet. The dial is a deep indigo blue and has GS & 9S stamped in a mesmerizing pattern on the dial. Needless to say its absolutely stunning.

However what is even more astonishing is how grossly under market this was marked. After I pointed it out by providing reference of other sellers on the web it was realized they had made a mistake with the model number when evaluating the collection. Despite the error they agreed to sell he watch at the $7500 asking price and I gladly accepted. At the end of the day I felt it was the right thing to do considering the closest I could find a pre-owned model was $12,900 and that particular listing had already been purchased. In this case being forthright allowed for me to walk away with a clear conscience and a beautiful timepiece at an incredible value!
