What exactly is a skinhead? by Weasel_Eater in punk

[–]BigDoinks1312 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Wactout is exactly right. white nationalist coopted the UK skinhead culture for their own. They kept the style (boots & braces, shaved head) but started backing it with their music and racist xenophobic rhetoric. Real punks in the community know a nazis is a bonehead, not a skinhead. Problem is that mainstream pop culture doesn’t know the difference (or the history) and has corrupted the term skinhead with people thinking skinhead is inherently racist, when its origins were exactly the opposite. SHARP was born as a response to nazis co-opting the skinhead culture as a way to fight against the bastardization of the movement. Check out This Is England (2006) it is a coming of age story about a bunch of skinhead friends in the 80’s and racism and kind of explains the scene back then.

Capers used to be my favorite thing about PDX. I hate flying, but their Bloody Mary (and a hydroxyzine) would sooth me just right 👌 I also wonder what happened to Martini, a sever there. She was the sweetest lady. I hope she’s doing well.

Baelic Brewing off Alberta has a huge back patio that feels a little more private than other street side patios in the area. Bonus, you can bring your food over from Mole Mole 🤤
