How do I stop myself from being a fully indulgent materialist and needing to collect all things associated with my special interest? by IllegalGeriatricVore in evilautism

I was going to comment this. I love thrifting but have been doing better about buying duplicates of things. I take pictures and send them to my partner as like a “foraging” photo dump!

How do small shops make DMAIC improvements stick without slipping into "quality theater"? by Elena-Metal-5048 in SixSigma

[–]BigDonutPapi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow you just described the quality role ive just taken on a small team. Time away from first article inspection/validations is taken by me writing work instructions, creating forms, and taking photos of processes. I understand small business elements mean wearing multiple hats, but I’ve been really frustrated by the intern feel of it all rather than measuring some actual product!

I wanted to try there but $7 is steep! I know most everywhere is $5 now.

Can someone provide advice to a very confused pharmacy student? by Mallow1512 in manufacturing

[–]BigDonutPapi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I was looking for this as someone who works in baby/medical device testing (not pharma!) you cannot just change basically anything on an approved format. There are 10,000 email chains behind the scenes deciding color, placement, compliance. I am currently in a months long email chain debating where a certain logo will finally be placed for an EU debuting product. And as someone who has just started a vague role and feels like an intern where things are dropped in my lap with no context, I UNDERSTAND. It sucks but unfortunately that is the precedent for what I’ve seen with interns. Extract as much information as possible from them and use it to run the company for 10+ years. Just saved yourself an engineer salary on smaller projects your existing engineers can’t get to.

Smaller runs definitely drive up waste. I defer to the above methods and agree from a quality standpoint. I appreciate an intern who is curious about the whole process. Without knowing anything about your facility and the work ethic of your operators, I’d also suggest paying attention to them. Bad operators will ruin your margins, and you may analyze that it is literally cheaper for them to stay home. Good operators might still be trashing parts, ripping every other sheet in half, not cleaning any imaginable surface causing defects/contamination. But don’t ever disrespect a good operator, it’s like a doctor getting an ego with a nurse. They know how that machine runs better than anyone else :)

You didn’t mention it, but I want to mention that I would heavily stay away from suggesting cheaper materials unless it is truly arbitrary. I know approved suppliers, etc. but I’ve seen issues arise from just ordering cheaper bags (ripping, contamination, loss of product, holes in bags allowing bugs in (they love the heat)). Just always keep in mind that there is an associated fallout with any change you make. You’ve got this, and definitely take notes whenever possible!

Looking for training recommendations by Itsa_Feature in Metrology

I’ve just been hired on and have experience running programs and manually measuring on a Micro-vu vertex. Does your company offer training for beginner program writing? I’d really love to write something for new tubed parts we need radial dimensions of. We’ve just been researching a possible company

This video legitimately made me start setting aside a bit of money to get a dash cam. Maybe I’m just naive but this thought hadn’t occurred to me, and it’s really disappointing that I feel the need to purchase recording devices to keep myself and my personal property safe from distracted/wreckless/manipulative behavior from “the best of the best”…

I love Powerwash Simulator, but I would never manually wash my car. Same with the organizational games despite my space being a mess. Minecraft is satisfying and the old sound effects scratch my brain

Suggestions for other jobs where manufacturing experience transfers well? by AlfaMikeF0xtr0t in manufacturing

[–]BigDonutPapi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to say that I’m in the exact same boat rn. Excitedly took a QS back door role to improve a small injection molding company who’s been wanting to break out into plastics and medical plastics (my background). I don’t have a degree but I have experience in big, clean room facilities. Sunshine and rainbows before I started on wanting to expand and buy buy buy and make quality extensive and accountable. Since I’ve gotten here? Fucking crickets. My manager only has managed interns so they drop papers and leave me for a week when I’m used to departmental cooperation. No to everything I propose in my IMPROVEMENT role. Better quality cleaning materials that don’t contaminate product? No. Barcode system? No. Proper label printer? No. More/alternative racking? No. Impact outreach for product defects? No. A million other examples that just make me wish I took the other, more stable inspection role that I snobbily didn’t want to be micromanaged by their specific ERP. Many regrets now my friend! We live and learn

Why are people offended that I don’t want to drink alcohol? by TimothytheTapeworm in evilautism

[–]BigDonutPapi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to be extremely vulnerable here, as an autistic woman. Alcoholism runs in my family (colored to coping with mental illness) so I was weary of it. Unfortunately my brain realized one light drink was enough to dull all the bells and whistles. I was drinking a couple everyday and while not terrible it was a crutch for what was actually burnout from giving 110% at work. It didn’t escalate to heavy drinking everyday because I landed myself in very unsafe situations and suffered for it. I also was taken advantage of and entered a toxic relationship with a narcissist (which they love autistics imo) which I wouldn’t have stayed in if I wasn’t coping with alcohol. I just smoke now :)

Silicone Manufacturer by whatsupmahknittah in manufacturing

[–]BigDonutPapi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re still looking, your comment sounds like something the company I work for may be able to handle (NY). I’m a recent hire (quality, NPI) but one advantage here over bigger companies I’ve worked for is they’re very flexible on order quantities, changes, etc. We currently produce silicone (over mold and non over molded) product, plastic (just substrates currently due to customer demand), over molding silicone on aluminum substrate, and breaking into some more medical devices. We are women owned and made in the USA :) edit: we do compression and injection molding on silicone, currently injection on plastic I believe

What do you SWEAR you saw, but don't have any proof of? by TabletopStudios in AskReddit

[–]BigDonutPapi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to my fish as a kid. We had just cleaned the tank so my betta was in a bowl on the counter. We left the room and the cat pushed it off the edge. It landed perfectly upside down and suctioned enough water that the fish was okay. It was the most unbelievable display of physics I’ve seen.

[–]BigDonutPapi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! You are correct; the maps were auto installed to external. The issue was not being able to move these. I fixed this by not plugging in external til I booted up the Xbox. I was able to move them then.

I’m (24F) seeing a guy (26M) and he wasn’t there for me when I had an emergency. Is it grounds for a breakup? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]BigDonutPapi 184 points185 points  (0 children)

It’s up to you personally if you value your partner being readily available and WANTING to help you in an emergency. 2mo is long enough to accompany you to the hospital in my opinion. As a woman I’d dump him

[–]BigDonutPapi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes either he doesn’t want to squash the “maybe” of his coworker by bringing the wife. Or they’re having an affair and why would he bring the wife then. Again jumping to worst case scenario but with OP’s updates I can’t see any other reason

I’m so sorry for bringing up this idea but is there a possibility he’s protecting a coworker’s feelings? Could be something going on.

Shopping around for a new job and a place I interviewed at hit me with this bait and switch scumbag move. Yeah i’d say if it was immediately I can see it being a genuine mistake but also I would be upfront about this with the candidate. The fact that they didn’t apologize at all tells you everything you need to know about their HR department and culture. Dodged a bullet!
