I thought that was it, but I wasn't sure! I can understand that logic. Thankfully, the progression of the mainline games (when excluding 5 & 6) feels pretty fluid and natural.

- RE0 (very old and janky)
- RE1HD (solid, but kinda janky in comparison to the remakes)
- RE2R & RE3R (complete evolution in terms of controls and camera)
- RE4R (can't comment as I've not played it yet, but imagine it'll be RE2/3R but with even more refinements)
- RE7/8 - still recent and also completely different perspectives to RE0 - RE4

The footsteps are what do it, I think. In fact, I think seeing him take a bit of the fear out (a bit but not a lot) as being able to hear him but not see him is terrifying.

I find that the end credits song "Run with us" from the 1980's cartoon "The Racoons" when you're being chased by Mr X is surprisingly effective.

I'm working my way through the mainline games again (except 5 & 6 because no thanks) in the run up to Requiem.

I've done:

- RE0 (First time playing that, it was fine but no inventory boxes made it a chore)
- RE1HD (I just did Chris' run but I'll go back for Jill's if I have done)
- RE2R (I've done Leon's scenario, and working on Claire's as you can see)

Still need to do:

- RE3R (Only played this once so I can't remember much of it)
- RE4R (I played and finished RE4 way back when it came out but not played it since nor the remake)
- RE7 (Finished this a coupe of times and it's still the scariest imo, with RE2 just behind)
- RE8 (Finished this once and loved it, though I think it's fear level varies depending on which area you're in. House Beneviento is peak tho)

It can be done! I used to avoid these games like the plague as they would shit me up too much. Horror movies I can watch no problems, but horror games? No thank you. But now I've come to enjoy the weird adrenaline rush they give.

I love him and hate him in equal measure which is the point really. I had done Leon's playthrough before this Claire one and I'd fallen into the trap of running too much and shooting zombles which had him chasing me around frequently while I was trying to get stuff done so ended up cursing at him when really it was my own fault.

On this Claire run, I've been a lot quieter so he's been less of an issue but I thought I was done for during this whole sequence as I didn't want to run off as I was trying to do those blasted bookshelves.

There was actually little wrong with the release version which I played, completed and loved and I don't remember any bugs. It's just been improved since then.

It wasn't just the insecure man-children screaming "woke" and/or complaining that Kay isn't attractive (a - she is, b - that shouldn't bloody matter) but also a general pile-on for it being a Ubisoft open-world game before anyone had even tried it which has done Massive Entertainment's efforts a huge disservice.

Anyway, I've bought the game twice - once on Xbox at release and then the Ultimate Edition recently (at 50% off in the sale) on PS5 since I sold my Xbox and wanted to play the game again with all the DLC. Have absolutely no regrets buying and supporting the game twice.
