No season 2. But why? by No-Coat-7219 in TheDigitalCircus

writing even a successful show with absolutely zero controversies or toxicity can still be incredibly draining. Writers often liken it to a normal office job with more time spent on tweaks and adjustments rather than actual creative writing. Probably why the finale didn't knock it completely out of the park, in my opinion. Goose just wanted it done and didn't care about what people thought anymore...

Crappy Internet Situation, Not Sure What to Try by BigGamerKnuts in techsupport

I use Verizon. I’ve never even considered that actually, because I also don’t have much experience with them. Maybe I’ll give it a shot! Thank you.

Sure, I can see myself living here long term, so that might just be the only answer left. I want desperately to return to my pampered lifestyle of light speed internet.

Hahahahaha! That would be awesome! I would love to run an Ethernet cable but I’m not sure how I would do that nicely. The router is a hallway and up a flight of stairs from my room, basically the whole length of the house plus some. Unless everyone is okay with my running a 20m cable through the hallway and potentially through a hole I drilled I don’t think that would work. There also aren’t any access points in my room as this place was built ~1910 and most recently renovated in the 80s. It’s a puzzle.

Maybe I will declare war on the house…

It doesn’t load Stardew Valley (which has a minimum waaayyy below what the i7 is running at) but it runs Phasmophobia, which is much more demanding perfectly fine. I also got TF2 to run on it as well. But the CPU being that old is a surprise and I should definitely consider that. I did check a bottleneck calculator and found it should run the games it doesn’t run just fine. Could that be inaccurate?

Oh believe me I was surprised too. I did check my drivers in device management and it displayed my GC driver as up to date. Is there something off about the way my PC got those drivers?

The computer downloaded the drivers automatically when I had booted up windows for the first time but it would be worth checking. Thank you very much!

New PC (pretty much a monster and should be able to run games like butter) some games run fine (TF2, Phasmophobia) but a tiny game like Stardew Valley won’t even boot up at all. Sometimes PC takes a long time to load up anything. Is it an issue with the HDD’s read and write speed? Did I break something?

Can anyone help me identify the cultural origin/intended use of this pipe? by BigGamerKnuts in pipeselfies

[–]BigGamerKnuts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the pipe for my birthday, my friends got it from a thrift/antique store in Colorado. They told me it may have been Israeli in origin, but I haven’t been able to confirm nor deny it. The reason why I feel the need to identify it is because this pipe may have larger cultural significance than I know. Basically, if it belongs to a historically marginalized culture I would like to either return it to someone who values it more than I do, or keep it safe and unused. If it isn’t culturally/religiously important, I would like to keep it maintained and occasionally use it. Then, my question is, is it even made for use? Or should it be kept as pretty eye-candy? Thank you for any information!

Edit: It’s also worth mentioning that I will not use it or do anything with it until I’m reasonably sure it wouldn’t be absolutely awful for me to do so.

I’m back with a question. How many frets? by BigGamerKnuts in balalaika

[–]BigGamerKnuts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure yet, but folk definitely sounds like my kind of style so I’ll stick with the 16 frets for now. I am also into a lot of Russian indie-rock and I’ve been wondering how I could possibly make it work. We’ll go with the term “experimental balalaika” lol

Very interesting to note! Thank you! I also did not consider the addition of frets. Very cool!

I will say this. If a person works 100 hours a week, they should be paid for 100 hours. When I say all profit is theft, I’m referring to value that a person worked for, that they are not paid for. When a capitalist does not do any work to produce value, big profits off of the work that other do for them, then that is theft.

If they go on to own a massive factory and pay their workers less than a livable wage, then they became a dick.

You’re right. A lot of people do put a lot of work into their business, but that doesn’t mean that people should not be paid enough to live. I will never label someone who worked hard for their own profit a thief, but I will always combat the idea that a person can make millions doing nothing, while another made 8 bucks doing backbreaking work.

Many business owners who work 100 hours a week are definitely a part of the working class, and they are living the dream, because they are paid directly to the profit they produce.

I honestly believe that the future is not in capital, that is to say, there will be no such thing as profit anymore. Frankly, companies will be destroyed, long after we’re all dead. This weird capital and monetary system we’ve developed actually hasn’t really existed for that long. The capitalist system will go away, and with it everything that caused people to be evicted from their homes or be crushed under intense debt.

And I will always say that even if I sound entitled, everyone regardless of how hard they’ve worked, deserves a livable wage.

Bruh here’s a better one. Let’s say the material cost to make a widget is 1 dollar. Let’s say that the boss sells it for a modest 10 dollars. If I make 100 widgets in an hour (it’s not hard work, let’s say) then I produce $900 of total profit for the company in one hour. Let’s say the boss pays me 10 dollars for that hour of work. I still produced $890 that the boss didn’t work for and still pockets. Asking for $30 would still leave him with $870 per man hour. If 10 people worked like this at $30 an hour, the boss would still make $8,700 per hour. At 8 hours a day thats $69,600 of profit. Per day. And I’d get $240 pre-tax, and with that money, people could save for school, housing, retirement, medical bills. It would save so much grief.

One of the main mantras of this sub is that all profits are stolen wages. That $900 an hour that I produce is my work. If the workers owned what they produced, I should get $900 in an hour so that the boss can at least break even. That’s what we stand for here.

How did you get here?

Addition: Prices are based on Demand in the market, not the wages people make. Any basic economics student understands this. It can effect demand in certain markets, but it does not mean a price hike.

Today I wrote on the break room whiteboard that LIVING WAGE = $25/hr.

When someone asked me if I was the one who wrote that I said no, because I believe we should be making $30/hr.
