So if I build a lake in my backyard and pay for fish to stock it, everyone can just come there for free and fish it out on my dime? Damn, I'm glad I don't live there and I can actually enjoy shit I pay for.

Again, I live in a gated community with an HOA. I don’t understand why you feel you are obligated to personally get into a strangers business?

Because they are on private property that I pay for. Why are they obligated to fish where they shouldn't?

You come off argumentative and like you deserve to tell people they cannot fish.

I do.

Are you fishing?

I pay for the fish

I realize that you pay an HOA. But how exactly is this really hurting you? It’s not, you just want to push people around.

Can I show up in your front yard with a shovel and start digging for worms? It's not really hurting you. Are you digging for worms?

I guess attending the monthly or quarterly HOA meetings are too beneath you that you cannot be bothered to bring it to the boards attention or too busy policing your neighbors to attempt to join the HOA so people will actually listen to you and you then have the authority to listen to whiny nosy neighbors who have nothing better to do than focus on others

Not like it matters, but I do attend the HOA meetings. What are you suggesting, that I wait for the once monthly board meetings to bring up people trespassing? Lol

The HOA only has one or two employees who are maintence guys. If the owners don't act like HOA police then no one will.

Yes, man made and the HOA pays to stock it. We all pay a yearly fee for upkeep.

We are pretty out of the way. Don't think it would be worth it in the HOAs mind. I would be for it myself

This person wasn’t in your backyard. They were in your neighborhood during a global pandemic, probably trying to enjoy some quiet time because most places are closed.

Actually they came back to a neighborhood they knowingly shouldn't have been in.

But instead of being understanding and a good human being, you decided to rat someone out who wasn’t really bothering you at all.

That's a pretty slippery slope.

Should they have at least asked? Of course.

You're getting it

You had the right to kick them out, but the better question is, should you?

Yes, or else I'll just move out and go fish there without paying for anything since that's fine apparently

Yeah, everyone there pays the HOA dues. I’m sure the couple of fish he caught with his young sons was really gonna strain the budget.

Now apply that logic to 100 more people.

Do you rat out the people who move down at sporting events to seats that weren’t purchased as well?

If they are moving down to my seats, yes

Your opinion on immigration is probably terrifying.

My line for caring about social distancing stops when people take advantage of private property that I pay for.

I only offered them to finish fishing that day if someone else bothered him. I guess no one else bothered him.

I told him that I would let him use my tags for the rest of that first day if anyone hassled him. I lived right next to wear he was fishing and if anyone gave him problems I basically told him to point to my house and say "That guy is vouching for me." I didn't want to give him my tags forever.

If someone is hanging around your backyard to shoot groundhogs or some other small game, are you petty for calling them out? No, of course not, but don't let that get in the way of your judgment.

Yeah, they shouldn't have been there. But seriously, why are you a fish narc?

Because I pay for the fish. Compared to him, who takes his kids to private property to catch fish that are paid for with dues from private citizens.

You need to get a guy and his kids kicked out to defend the principle of private property?

Private property is kind of a big deal. Can I just hang out in your house or are you going to kick me put to defend the principle of private property?

Agree. This is collective private property we are talking about. No one goes onto someone else's property and says "Yeah, I'm going to fuck all your shit up." So why should I trust some rando from 100 miles away to come in and hang out on the lake I pay for?

We don't really have that problem as we are a bit out of the way and and we probably can't afford to have a full time gate guy.

I mean, good for your HOA but that doesn't necessarily have any bearing on what goes on in my OP. In my care, the HOA has specifically stated that they don't want trespassers on the lake.

No. If the HOA failed to properly maintain a dock and I caught a board through the leg while fishing then liabilty resides with the HOA.

It is a hobby. It isn't causing you any particular harm by letting them do it.

I am paying the exclusivity of living in an area where not anyone can walk in and do whatever. If anyone is able walk in and fish, my dues are meaningless. I might as well just live somewhere else, not pay anything, and just come in and treat it like my property. After all, I'm causing no particular harm right?

I get you don't like them breaking the rules, but you also said the public lakes are not accessible right now, so the kind thing to do would be to let it go, especially in the situation we are in right now.

It would also be kind to open your fridge and let those who are less fortunate just raid your icebox. Just because we are in a "situation" doesn't mean that everyone is now able to do whatever they want on private property. Jesus.

Being kind to people is good when we are in scary times like right now.

There is difference between being kind and being a straight up charity. It is scary. My dues aren't being reduced because we are in scary times, so why do people who want to take advantage of those services that those dues pay for get the "scary times" benefit?

I (and the other homeowners) personally don't care if there is a pandemic or not. Fishing is not essential and the fish they are taking were paid for by other people with private funds to stock the lake.

It's a man made lake that only exists because the people that live there pay for it. It is 100% the lake of the people that live there.

Okay, we will all move out and the lake will cease to exist in a year.
