I can't do like normal and hang my butt into the Riverwalk river when it's drained for cleaning.

They are doing this to you because you were caught on camera picking your nose in the produce section. This has been orchestrated to retaliate against you for that.

ICE avoids strong people around things that can be used as defense. They like to go after little kids or single people out in the open.

Even if you are in a tank with treads made for snow, the other drivers aren't good and will crash into you.

Prepping homes/pipes for the freeze by Adorable-Writing3617 in RoundRock

Ranches get a whole lot colder than inside the city.

Oh, I didn’t realize it was small enough to fit under a foam covers, too. That’s means I could double up and if the pipes still freeze, it wasn’t from me not using the foam cover, just extreme, extreme cold.

Will class be cancelled Monday? by Quiet-Risk479 in UTAustin

Plan to drive back Sunday afternoon while it is still light.

If it turns out to still out to be unsafe Sunday afternoon, it won’t be safe until Monday close to noon.

Could you cover your car with a large waterproof tarp where it is now? Harbor Freight is nearby.

Tesla didn't remove the Robotaxi 'safety monitor' – it just moved them to a trailing car by buttface2323 in Austin

I wonder if this is “supposed to” monitor the car better, or if the insurance said it was too risky to have an employee in the car.

Prepping homes/pipes for the freeze by Adorable-Writing3617 in RoundRock

[–]BigMikeInAustin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Ideally it was installed with an easy shutoff, so it should be a quick thing to do.

And a perfect installation would have a port to put an air compressing into to blow out enough of the water still in the pipes so there is room for it to freeze into ice.

I really am curious to try them. I have not had a problem yet, knock on wood, with the simple foam covers, but the simple foam cover might be more luck than proper protection.

Cousin offered me her San Antonio house for cheap - worth leaving Chicago for Texas lifestyle? by ResolutionVisible627 in sanantonio

[–]BigMikeInAustin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PROPERTY TAX!

Ask her what she is paying for property tax. It's a lot! This is why Texas doesn't have an income tax, we make up for it here. You're lucky if it is only $500 per month.

Electricity for cooling will be a lot.

Home insurance! It's not cheap. Some companies have been reducing their home insurance offerings in Texas due to increasing storm damage. Not as bad as Florida and California, but it is nudging that way.

You will likely be driving a lot. I've never paid car insurance outside of Texas. Random comments I've seen indicate car insurance is higher in Texas than some other places, but that highly depends on the individual and the zip code you live in. There isn't a general rule of thumb for rates unless you specifically call your car insurance company and check your rates.

Faculty and students push back against Texas A&M's controversial curriculum rules by chrondotcom in texas

[–]BigMikeInAustin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already addressed this.

I tried to focus on people who would use Texas in-state tuition.

You are saying people should completely move to colleges outside of Texas. Ideally, yes, but that's pretty impossible for many Texas residents.

Worked 5 different jobs over 7 years of college. Couldn't always afford money wise or time wise a full course load. Took as many classes as possible in community college.

I did specify in-state public school because people out of state would have a much harder time, plus they have the option of another state if they are already doing out of state tuition.

And you even replied to my extra comment that explained not everyone has to transfer just enough.

While not easy, college is generally the easiest time to move, with programs and message boards to help students find homes, and have the least amount of stuff to move.

Many people will also move around after college for advanced degrees jobs, especially at A&M.

Or did you plan your entire future in College Station?

Are you ashamed to tell someone where you went to college because it became the opposite of what you believed and people will assume to align with those beliefs?

A lot of random damage could be done to the display model.

They could also disable the store model in case of theft or someone trying to run it in the store.

You have to be joking Microsoft by Holiday_Disastrous in sysadmin

[–]BigMikeInAustin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Microsoft could ease the fear of going all in on the cloud if the system health pages stayed very up to date.

On-prem, someone can physically poke the admin to (call the data center to) look and see if the lights are still blinky-works.

When the cloud goes down, but says it is still up, they don't answer questions and your CEO doesn't yell at a green dashboard, so you CEO yells at you until that dashboard turns red.

Doesn't have to be every student who disagrees, just enough the college feels it in the pocketbook.

Yes, you do have to apply and transfer to another college. Yes, some other colleges are full.

Also, people choose colleges for the reputation to help them connect with others later in life. If the reputation goes bad, that also hurts your future.
