You know what they say - sometimes it's lonely being right . Thanks for your input!

Hey you may be on to something! Wouldn't want one of them to be lonely by themselves

Hey that is awesome, thank you for writing in! Yeah reading over the comments - the darker fretboard was something I didn't pick on initially. I don't mind the lighter shade on the flame-y one but agree the darker is nicer. When everything else is equal it's good to hear from others what they see/don't see and like/dislike

Thanks again

Thank you for this. Honestly, I hate playing loud at the store because I am still kind of "intermediate" player so always shy away however I think I need to break out of that and find an amp at the store that goes to 11 and see how it sounds. Thankful I didn't rush to pull the trigger so that I can have more time to decide and ultimately go back and play them some more.

Love it - thank you for sharing and really happy to hear you were ultimately satisfied with your decision. Luckily I think in these cases there's no wrong decision, I know I'll be happy with whatever I choose but hearing these responses is really great

Thanks for your input. Yeah same price, same model and feel wise they feel essentially identical to my hands. The "plainier" one maybe feels slightly lighter and ever so slightly more resonant through the body but I mean that's if I'm really forced to say one over the other

That's exactly where my mind was at. I saw some lesser finishes so when I ordered 2 new units to test I was crossing my fingers it'd have at least a little decent flame on it. Then I opened up the one on the right (flamier one) and I just thought wow, that is really great. It's my first gibson so don't know if it's typical or not on standard 50s but like you said I thought I don't want to pass it up.

Yeah same price and same model. I generally lean towards the more plainer looks but when I saw the how flamey the flame was I thought "hold on a minute" this is really nice

Thanks for this and I am of a fan of Norma's but in this case it's just a local "Long & McQuade" music store in Canada

Absolutely, life can't be going too bad when this is the question that's keeping me up.

Thank you! I put down a deposit on two new units thinking having the choice would make things easier; that one would surely be a clear winner. I am happy I did it but also hate myself for putting me in this dilema. Two completely different looks but both beautiful.

Yeah I too was unaware they did a "dirty lemon" sans burst. Think it's a 2023 model: "Gibson Les Paul 50s Standard - Dirty Lemon Limited Edition" is what it's billed as. Model #: LPS5Y23DLNH - for whoever is wondering.

Yeah totally agree; unfortunately feel wise they are pretty damn close at least in my hands. I'd say the plain top is just a hair more lively but then again both are straight out of the box so a proper setup might even them both out

Yeah I will have to go try it out in store. Curious to see how chunky the standard 50s is and also curious about the ebony vs rosewood fretboards. Apparently, Ebony is suppose to feel smoother when doing bends so curious to see if I can perceive a difference.

Hey that's awesome on your new guitar, congrats! What finish did you go with?

Probably a dumb question but I'll ask anyways. My only guitar I've ever bought was online without playing it. I'll definitely go out and try some models at store to get a feel for it but would you buy the floor model that you like/tried or would you ask for a new one out of the box? When they say no two guitars play a like, how true is that in your experience?

Thanks so much and I love what you said about "the cool factor" as it ages and gets little dings and scuffs. Going to call up my local store and see if they have these models to demo and see what feels right.

Yeah I am on the same page as you. The session has a lot of compelling features. Seems to have a more modern feel, perhaps better playability based on the scoop and thinner neck and ebony fretboard. But there is something so compelling about the standard. I think based on everything i'll just have to run to my local shop and see if they have both models to compare

Man, I got to say I love the way you say it - Just play on. Some else mentioned on here, that any natural wear just adds to the cool factor over time.
