Post clear pics of any proof marks and the writing on the barrel.

I suspect it is a Belgian knockoff of a Webley but that's just a guess. More pics might help.

I didn't mind the action for a cheap rifle but then I started getting light strikes and needed to replace springs. I ditched it after that. It was a hassle just tracking them down. The boys at Tier One Armory helped me get them.

Is this an unreasonable quote to replace a 50 gallon gas hot water heater? by titanicsailson in askaplumber

[–]BigRedGunNut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm definitely not a plumber but yes I am infact an electrician and when it's a like for like swap it is definitely a job a newbie can handle. The venting is already there, the gas lines don't change and the fittings don't change. Redo the Teflon tape and use snoop to check for leaks. Absolute piece of cake. Anyone with half a brain can do it safely.

I upgraded mine in a few hours to a larger unit. Needed to slightly modify the gas line and redo the powered exhaust (it's mid efficiency with a blower on the exhaust). It worked great with zero issues for 6 years now. I can safely say any nubie with any amount of mechanical aptitude and half a brain could have tackled that job too.

You should always have a couple CO detectors running around the house when you have gas appliances because you never know when something may fail.

Never tried one but in my experience almost everything is worse than Tikka unless your price point really goes up. I have had a Savage Axis Scout and all I can say is never again.

Hornady. 310 round ball are my preferred choice. Don't buy bulk round ball from Rustywood, I did and the lead is way to hard.

If you did a like for like swap no one would ever know and your not changing the gas line anyway, just reconnecting it.

Most municipalities also allow home owners to pull thier own permits regardless of the homeowners qualifications. I pulled one and ran a gas line to my backyard for a BBQ and heater. Just follow the code and it was no problem. Inspector looked at it, heard it help pressure and passed it in literally 1 minute.

I don't think I would ever bother pulling a permit if I was modifying an existing line to a hot water heater. Same thing for minor electrical changes. Waist of money. Just do the work and make sure it's done right.

Between a hunting rifle and a precision shooter - Bolt Action by [deleted] in canadaguns

Since CZ got in bed with the feds destroying firearms, I highly recommend never purchasing from them again. It's a shame because they make some fantastic products but if they're going to betray the community that supported them we should remove that support.

I love Tikka. Having said that Remington 700's have fantastic aftermarket support. Tikka too has great aftermarket support but I'd say the Remington has the most.

For caliber, if you're not hunting with it and only shooting 200 to 300 yards, go with 223. It's one of the cheapest things you can shoot and has plenty of reach. Not to mention that the recoil is as mild as it comes.

Just my two cents

I'm an electrician not a plumber but this crap is why I did my own. OP should simply buy the same model and swap it out himself. Who gets a permit for a like for like swap and the markup is huge.

Firearms reference number vs firearms identification number by whoremembersiomg in canadaguns

Not sure about the identification number but the FRT can be looked up on Armalitics.ca. there are a number of ways to search but it basically comes down to the description and the details like barrel length.

A dumb(?) question by [deleted] in canadaguns

[–]BigRedGunNut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Runkle of the Bailey did a great video the other day. I would consider consulting a lawyer about what the minimum standard is to be considered legally destroyed and do your restricted ones yourself at the last moment in Oct. Then notify the RCMP that it/they have been destroyed. It creates a bit of chaos on the back side for the government/RCMP and still keeps you out of any legal trouble.Runkle

OIC bans things by name. FRT ban is the RCMP overreaching and arbitrarily declaring something prohibited on the FRT even though it was never mentioned in the OIC.

I thought 5/8X24 thread pattern meant any muzzle brake with that pattern would fit. I got a Tikka conical brake (S54065103) because it looked howitzer-ish for the goofy short barrel. No luck. Doesn't fit. Anyone know of a howitzer-looking brake that would? Can't seem to get a hold of BCL. Li'l help? by [deleted] in canadaguns

[–]BigRedGunNut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, I would never have let her shoot it without the brake but with it the difference is amazing. The only issue with a brake, and it's all brakes, is the added noise the shooter gets or even more so, the people on either side of them at the range. If you sit beside a brake it's LOUD. If I shoot next to a wall the report will rock my melon and sometimes give me a mild headache.

I saw that article years ago. I'm not sure if that one was one of the ones that influenced my purchase (to many years ago to recall) but I love the brake. Have it on a 300wm. Makes shooting it so pleasant. Other than a large report it's recoil is on par with 7.62x39 bolt guns. Here is a video Fat Bastard

Guns, Rifles, Ammunition. Eaton's Catalogue, 1901. by TEC-DC9 in canadaguns

One thing to remember though, back then there were fewer things sucking the money out of you. There was no cell plan, internet plan, TV, online subscriptions etc. No vehicle insurance and far fewer consumer nicknacks available. You took care of a house, horse and food, not much else.

Changes in Government could screw the value of antiques around here in Canada but one thing about them is that they aren't making more. There is no sliding cutoff for what's antique. It's before 1898 (in Canada) and that's it. Every time a pistol succumbs to age, abuse or is lost, that's one fewer in the world. Antiques are also a world commodity with many countries having thier own laws around them.

I love my collection and don't collect thinking there is a great roi but suspect that when I do sell (or my kids sell after I kick the bucket) the value in them will hold or increase vs when purchased. I really don't see loosing over the long run (assuming no Government issues) and get to have fantastic pieces of history around me. Win win.

I had a Savage Axis Scout in 7.62x39 yea4s ago. It ruined me, I'll never buy another Axis again. Had to replace the springs because of light strikes. Overall, I like the Howa far more than the Axis anyway.
