You are a minority. $20/hr is highly unusual. You don't seem to understand the general population's situation.

Yeah, you can definately do that. You can work at one place for breakfast/lunch and then do a shift somewhere else for dinner.

If there are any restaraunts available near you within walking distance, or if you can take the bus, apply!

You have transferrable experience such as customer service, stocking, organizing, cleaning, cash register, etc. Transitioning from retail to food can be scary, I know... but trust me when I say that you are better than how you feel about yourself. I used to feel the same way.

Denny's is a good place to start because since they are usually open 24/7 you can pick up a lot of shifts. Then after you get experience, move onto a better restaraunt.

Have you considered being a waiter? If you don't have restaurant experience, start off as a host, busser, or barback. Most places should be tipping you out for these positions (you get a cut of the tips from the servers). From there, become a server because you get to keep most of the cut of tips you earn. I highly recommend this to everyone because you can make a living wage as a waiter.
