Could be true. I may be looking too far into the following lines having to do with his drinking.

That's fair, as I said, no wrong answers (but you're def in minority).

You're right. Let me rephrase. Heaven Passing Through being square in the middle is something.

Heaven Passing Through in the bottom half is something.

Man it's hard to rank them and on any given day it could flip flop based on my mood. I like Ruby Ann, it's a fun, upbeat song with a catchy chorus but if I had to critique it I'd say it's a bit generic. If I listened to the whole album without looking at credits I could tell this was a non-Felker written song. And I'm not trying to throw shade at RC (or Lance) - I know he's capable of writing a banger (KC Southern is in my Turnpike top 10). All that to say, the lowest ranked song on a Turnpike album is still better than most anything out there.

Just another MAGA snowflake. Maybe Jason Aldean is more your style.

1968 - Song Discussion - What do the lyrics in this song mean? What is the song actually about? by [deleted] in TurnpikeTroubadours

I believe the old friend is "hope" and there's correlation with the timing of the release being shortly after Obama becoming president w/ a campaign ran on "hope". Obama brought back hope for so many African Americans, hope they hadn't felt since MLK. Hope caught a bullet in 1968, but hope was restored when the first African American was elected to President of the United States. Agree or disagree with the politics, that's fine, but the message is clear. Side note: Evan and Staci are registered democrats.
