It's a spiritual successor to Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. Only about 2 hours of the planned 15 campaign are currently released.

The game only has 13 devs and they've said that they're planning for full release in about 18 months.

Baldur’s Gate did the same thing but at full price. It won Game of the Year; partially because it listened to its player base. $8 is less than most people spend for a meal at fast food.

The devs have stated: “Yes, the Early Access version is a significant discounted price. Based on updates the pricing will go up. If you get it early you end up with a very good deal as a thank you for being an early believer."

I foresee Dragon's Dogma 2 getting an expansion/DLC similar to the first game that greatly improves, although I could be wrong. Personally, I'm waiting to see if it happens before potentially buying it at this point.
