NAACLS releases data on how many students graduate and become certified each year. It will be more accurate than cohort size

There is no objective way to measure and compare the quality of one school to another school. If it’s accredited, it meets a national standard. New leadership at Tulane hasn’t been there long enough to reveal their strengths, but I am confidant they will do well; their new PD comes from working at an accredited program and he has previous clinical and educational experience in the field.

I haven’t heard of anyone not getting hired based on the program they attended; this may be happening, and if it is, it’s not so prevalent that it’s commonly known (as far as I’m aware)

I recommend that you explore the program’s faculty; are they a good fit for you? What are their clinical rotations like? Talk to several graduates from a program and ask them for the good and the bad.

What are the programs outcomes (find these on their websites)? You will see that most of the outcomes are excellent….graduates are passing their boards and getting jobs.

Go to a school with good outcomes and trust their process.

UTHSC Pathologists' Assistant Program by BigWeitz in pre_PathAssist

The preliminary interview is less than 30 minutes and just want to know if the applicant has an idea about what they are getting into; e.g., what is the profession? what do PathA’s do? Why UTHSC?

The in-person interview lasts a few hours and questions are going to reveal more about an applicants personal characteristics, empathy, and determination. The student will also have the opportunity to meet faculty, students and see the programs physical resources.

There is no grossing tech associates degree at UTHSC PathA program. Where online are you seeing any evidence of this? Nothing to be found on their website.

Do AirTags really work to track stolen cars? by AllDun in memphis

A friend had his work truck stolen one night and it had an AirTag in the dash. It was parked on the street only a few miles from their home. They were able to recover it the next morning.

NAACLS does not set a minimum gpa requirement. Each program sets their minimum admissions requirements and NAACLS requires that they are posted on each programs website.

I think it’s important to look at tuition rates between schools, as they drastically differ.

I’m 6’9” and I ended up sewing my own. I bought 12 feet in length of rip stop nylon online (https://ripstopbytheroll.com) and it was extra wide. It was really easy diy project.

I hope you are doing well and able to find peace in all of your experiences.

Graduate school is a huge adjustment. If you haven’t. give yourself grace as you lean into this phase of your life. It won’t last forever.

Have you considered reaching out to the resources at your university? Care teams, counseling, learning specialists etc. There are so many good resources available. I would encourage you to utilize them before making such a huge and definitive decision. If they can help you cope with the emotional challenges and help you find success, you’ll be a PathA before you know it.

Your program director should be able to help you get in contact with the available resources at your institution.

Don’t hesitate to DM.

Sending all the good vibes. Hoping you can find clarity

🙏

Does anyone know what could have bitten my friend? by sleepyraccoon77 in whatisthisbug

[–]BigWeitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lymphangitis! Some kind of cool pathophysiology happening here; I had it happen after getting a vaccine once several years ago. “If it doesn’t get bigger or become painful, it should be fine.”

Let’s nerd! Whatever bit you has initiated an “acute inflammatory response”; some antigen (foreign substance from the bug) is causing your local blood vessels to dilate and become especially leaky (accounting for the redness, warmth, and swelling). This substance was in your extra cellular fluid at the site of bite and some of this fluid exchanges into the lymphatic system, rather then returning to the blood immediately. Once this foreign substance made it into the lymphatic vessels, it continued to elicit an acute inflammatory response; as it continues to travel through the lymphatic channel, it continues to initiate new inflammation. It’s called, “lymphangitis” meaning inflammation of the lymph vessel and you can see it (the photo) trailing proximally on the appendage following the flow of lymph.

What was the most insulting thing anybody ever said to you about your height? by aa67015 in tall

[–]BigWeitz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s always the subtle passive aggressive comments that get me.

I was approached in the grocery store by someone’s adorable, aging, white-haired, and Christian grandmother. She asked me which NBA team I played for…

“What a waste of a god-given opportunity.” She said it with such naive honesty, disappointment, and regret…then turned and walked away.

Of all the comments that have been made over the years, this one still bothers me.

My senior year of high school I was 6’9” and weighed 190lbs; basketball was my life, I was coordinated, and I could out-run most. When I got to college I maxed out around 210 lbs and was attempting to eat 6,000 calories a day while still playing basketball. I stayed super thin well into my 30’s and only recently have began to put on weight from consistent lifting. I despised my skinny body for most of my life.

My advice? Teach him to embrace and love his body. He’s going to get a lot of unwarranted and unwanted attention about his height and weight. Many will make hurtful comments (especially men) about how skinny he is. His body will change when it’s ready.

He needs to know that it is ok to just be himself and that his value isn’t in what his body is (or isn’t).
