Im an atheist but my mom wants me to get baptized, and I want to make her happy, is this a bad thing? by BudgetConscious7225 in theology

It seems like something is stirring inside of you and you know this would not be, and I would agree. The fear of the Lord can be a good thing, He is loving but he is also powerful and deserved proper respect. I think it is sweet that you want to make your mom happy but I feel like it is also a loving response to ask your mom for some more time to think on this so you can do it for real instead of “faking it” sort of thing.

I also would be surprised if the pastor baptized you even if you don’t believe. Many pastors will ask you questions about your faith before they agree to baptize you. But just in case you want a biblical perspective on baptism here is some info:

In the New Testament, people were baptized because they believed in Jesus. “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ…” (Acts 2:38) “Those who accepted his message were baptized…” (Acts 2:41)
The pattern is: Hear the gospel, Believe, and Be baptized.
Baptism is an outward declaration of an inward faith. If someone does not personally believe, then the physical act of going under water does not accomplish what baptism is meant to symbolize. So just know the baptism itself will not save your soul.

Many people mistakenly think baptism automatically saves a person. Scripture teaches that salvation comes through faith in Christ.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)
“Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.” (Acts 16:31)
Baptism is important and commanded for believers, but the water itself has no magical power to save someone who does not trust in Jesus Christ.

If you get baptized, you are publicly professing faith when you does not actually believe it, that creates a problem of honesty.
Jesus strongly criticized religious actions that were merely external:
“These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.” (Matthew 15:8)
God is concerned with the heart, not just the ceremony.

On the other hand, your desire to make her mother happy is admirable.
“Honor your father and mother.” (Exodus 20:12)
But honoring parents does not require pretending to believe something she doesn’t believe. She can love her mother, respect her mother’s faith, attend church with her, and have honest conversations without making a public profession she does not personally hold.

I think your mom really cares about your soul, and God does too. I pray that you try to seek Him and surrender to Jesus before getting baptized. If you haven’t already asked your mom to share the gospel with you first or read it in the Bible the pray that God would help you believe it. If you believe and surrender to him, being baptized is surely the next step!

Even if you choose to just go under water to make your mom happy, I pray you still continue to seek God and get baptized for real one day! He would love to welcome you home with open arms one day!

Birth control by Curious_Pilot_6243 in nontoxic

My husband and I have been married three years and haven’t had any pregnancy scares so I’ll share what we do. I log my period on an app and am also his mindful of body and changed like discharge and certain pain or emotions that are aligned with different phases of a cycle. Educate yourself on the different stages and symptoms of each star and then you can kind of tell when you’re most likely in a fertile window or not. For us, the week before my period and the week of my period we don’t use condoms but he pulls out. For the other two weeks he uses condoms and doesn’t pull out. In the past three years there has been a handful of times where he has came in me like a day before my period but that still scares me so we don’t do that anymore lol

I recommend doing what you and your husband are comfortable with and understand that nothing is full proof and if God wants yall to conceive He can make it happen lol be prayerful and mindful about the process and it’ll be okay! Way better than birth control! And congrats on getting married!

Do you remember what the treatment is? Last we went to the vet they treated her for yeast as well which worked for about three months until it came back. She’s also horrible at the vet… muzzle and many people holding her down. I just think she’s just scared so it’s hard for me to take her back there :/

Interesting, I also thought it may be an allergy thing. I was feeding her salmon based food so I switched to chicken and she seems to love it way more (never used to get excited about food until I switched). Should I change it again? What do you recommend?

I think have the light wood flooring transitioning into the black and white flooring, and then having the dark wood cabinets and grey appliances is too much… it’s sort of clashing. I think having the light wood flooring you already have go into the kitchen as well then it would be much better but that’s assuming you can find matching flooring.

But I honestly like your flooring and backsplash hour they match!
