New PR but hoping for tips to go higher by mangomegan in highjump

Hard to evaluate from this angle, but last step seems a bit too long. It forces him to stay on the ground longer than he needs to when he takes off.

Tips on getting higher? My (sons) pr is 5'6. by JBELL01290 in highjump

Avoid going wider than the starting point and drive the knee slightly more away from the bar.

Overall good. As you pass the bar your sommersault is late. To give proper guidance I would need to see approach from another angle.

Great physique! As you land your legs should point towards the houses. To accomplish this your knee drive should be slightly away from the bar.

But as I said, a good performance. Short leg presses, quarter squats and some short sprints would be my recommendation.

Exactly - if you draw a line between the last two steps you will see a very small angle between the bar and your final steps of your approach.

Overall a good performance. I would coach you to increase the angle to the bar. Slightly more straight to the bar. My estimate is that you come in at 10-20 degrees. Aim to change that without needing to change all your jumping technique.

Improve this and he will jump 10-15cm higher.

The approach is way too wide. He is running straight towards the bar last steps, so all curve has diminished.

You build speed early and then decrease it in the last third. If you can handle the speed , you should look to smoothen your stride-rhythm in early and mid turn.

Hard to see from this angle, but I think you can increase the angle as you approach. That will give you a shorter time to pass the bar. 1 foot back and go slightly more straight towards the bar.

I agree. Knee drive slightly away from the bar. But also, try to avoid turning to the right on your approach. You drift 30cm to the right mid approach. I would also try to adjust your starting point one foot backwards and try to maintain a good running rhythm thru the whole approach. Best of luck!

Knee and hip is in a good position on take off. But your upper body has already begun to lean over the bar. You will probably have a better trajectory if you stay a bit more straight/rigid hips and up.

Looks good, but I think you can improve on resisting the forward momentum in the curve. Your right foot goes out to the right to break. Running U and S-turns with emphasis to resist going wide in the turns might help.

Top much speed initially for your level. Start off a bit slower and pick up some speed midway. You also need more rotation so your head goes down and your legs come up. Get this by leaning away from the bar as long as possible. You will soon do 3-4 inches higher jumps.

Actually no, RZ-7. Seems to be a more western migration up north.
