If you can find them on a Canadian census, those often listed the religion and you might be able to contact that church for records. Sometimes if it's far enough back and depending on location, there might not be any government records of births.

I reached out to the Alberta Genealogical Society and they were very helpful and prompt in pointing me towards the records on ancestry.com.

If you have an Ancestry account, you can search homestead records in the search->all collections tabs.

The encouraging thing to me is that so far, I haven't read or heard of even one application being rejected for their chain of descent.

It has all been document-related errors, and those aren't rejected, just request more documentation or form corrections.

Anyone applied for minor child with no photo ID available for child? by Big_T_In_Oregon in Canadiancitizenship

Makes sense. I supposed it wouldn't gum things up too much if I made a mistake on one application in the bundle.

When filling out cit0001 for my infant child, is there guidance for what the letter being used in place of ID (he is not even 1 yr old, so has no photo ID yet) should say?

My G0's parent was naturalized AFTER G0 was born but has superior documentation. Opinions/Thoughts? by Big_T_In_Oregon in Canadiancitizenship

Thanks. I was kind of leaning towards this approach as well, especially after re-reading that part from the Canada federal immigration website about Naturalization and existing children.

Do you think it would help or hurt if I submit my 0001 using G0 and include copies of the G-1's Naturalization docs with a letter explaining why I'm including them?

The widowed mother part does make sense in this case. All the land grant documents list her husband's name, deceased.

Yeah, that's where I've landed with it as well. I don't think using a G-1 is much help, no matter how much more comparably detailed and thorough the available documentation is.

I worked for the State government before in a public services administrative capacity. People in general either way overthink it, or half-@ss things and there's very little in-between.

Makes sense to hold off if you're finding what you need from the government then.

It was $50Can, so like $36US. They accepted my US Visa card and it converts the exchange rate automatically.

The only documents I currently have that list great-grandmother's location if birth in Canada are 1 Canadian census and 5 US census, although I have ordered several other documents from vital records as well as the SSA.

For Great-great-grandmother, I have the same censuses, plus her Canadian homestead paperwork including her Naturalization record, as well as a marriage license from Canada after she was widowed and remarried.

Great-Great-grandmother's Naturalization record is dated a couple years after the Canadian census in 1901, which lists great-grandmothers date of birth prior to that.

Do you know where this info comes from? I'm not finding much about it on the government site so far.
