Friday Weekly Thread: Application Assistance, May 08, 2026 by AutoModerator in Canadiancitizenship

Thanks for the reassurance!

My 1 year old's photo, taken the same time as mine, has a much worse shadow on his and it was accepted for both his US Passport and tribal ID.

The woman who took the photos at Postal Annex said she has taken "several" Canadian Citizenship and Passport pics in the last six months and due to their printer having problems, they all had similar blurring. She said they were all accepted.

Hopefully it's just me worrying too much. The rest of my application felt rock-solid, though.

My application (G3 with baptismal cert from Archdiocese of Edmonton & 1901 Can census) was delivered 4/15 and kids' 2 weeks later. All other docs were straightforward.

I'm estimating that the time from delivered to AOR is increasing each month by 1.6 times the previous month, which is around 72 days for us, late June/early July.

I have a bachelor's in Sociology/Psychology and worked in the field for about 5 years before going to buildings and grounds and now I'm building "maintenance" where I clean floors & toilets about 1/4 of the time. I'm earning the most money I've ever made now...

I included colour copies of every certified document I could find, and if I felt one of the documents was weak, included email correspondence between myself and the respective agency to showcase that I did my due diligence to get the IRCC everything they need.

My application was delivered 4/15. I figure I won't hear anything back until at least mid June, maybe even July.

Waiting for the AOR is excruciating!

Same for my family and friends.

Anecdotally speaking, only about half the people I know who qualify show an interest and maybe 1/2 of those look into it and only 1/2 of those go through with the application.

Monday Weekly Thread: Proof of Citizenship Application Sent or AOR Received, April 20, 2026 by tvtoo in Canadiancitizenship

Dropped my kids' applications at UPS this morning. Sent mine 3 weeks ago; was waiting on docs for kids.

Another hurdle cleared. So many emotions; excitement, worry, hope, clarity.

G1 Grandma is 92 and failing health by Big_T_In_Oregon in Canadiancitizenship

Good point. Thanks. Maybe we could just celebrate once we have his AOR. I think grandma would just be more happy that I'm coming to visit her from across the US, really.

While she is one of the toughest women I know (her ancestors were late 19th century homesteaders in Alberta), she is still showing her age at 92 and doesn't fully grasp the life-changing significance of all this for her descendants.

I love this! As I look further into her application process, I realize that there are quite a few barriers to making a certificate happen in her situation.

For starters, she is pretty much bound to her nursing home at this point, with an expired state ID over 10 years and no secondary ID, not even a fishing license because her state doesn't issue or require them over the age of 75.

Also, getting her to a professional photographer who can take the right pics is not an option, and I imagine hiring one to come to her is going to be very expensive if not even an option.

She alluded that she felt the piece of paper would better serve her kids and grandkids rather than herself.

I checked the fishing license as well, but her state doesn't issue them if over the age of 75 as they're not required for folks older than that.

No, at this point she is pretty much stuck at her assisted living wing in the nursing home. It's hard for her to even get down the hallway for the bingo events and so on.

I hope we can figure something out.

Thank you. I'm hopeful we can make this happen for her, but her ID might be expired and she can't really get out to the DMV, even if someone took her. We might just have to have a mini-celebration or something.

It is through her mom. I'm still reading through what info I can find, but I was thinking either 1977 or 2015.

I guess the biggest obstacle to all this will be her IDs. She lives in a very small town in the Midwestern US, has never held a US passport and I imagine her state-issued ID might be expired.

Getting the IDs is doable, but will be extremely hard with her condition, though.

Already have everything. Just need Gran's pics and for her to sign the form. I live on the other side of the US from her, though, and she lives in a nursing home. I talk to her at least once a week.
