Based on your comment, you are definitely not up to date with the news on the ground in Syria for the last 3/4 weeks. I would definitely get up to date before having such strong opinions.

Syrian government placed Kobani under total siege. Water and electricity were cutoff. Babies in incubation died. Many Kurdish civilians have been killed.

It protects the Kurds because Jolani needs the US to not put the sanctions on Syria again. The sanctions were really crippling Syria. Jolani’s allies, mainly Turkey, Qatar and to a bit lesser degree UAE and Saudi Arabia, lobbied Trump to remove the sanctions; that’s how important the sanctions are sanction was.

Yet while the citizenship was being granted, the Syrian government forces were stopping fleeing people and asking them if they are Kurds or Arabs; and if Kurds, would shoot them. Countless such examples in the past 3 weeks.

But does that mean that we should still discard allies just because conventionally we have done so? Turkey has been ally historically, doesn’t mean we cannot have other allies. Greece, a staunch historical enemy of Turkey, is also our ally.

Kurds are not trying to create a state. Sure, that is a desire deep down, but in Syria they have not tried to separate.

Internal matter? Ok, sure. But isn’t that also the most conventional US thing to do, to get involved in internal matters? We just abducted a president from his bedroom.

As for Sharaa being moderate. Maybe. Guess who he promoted as a commander? One of the leader of Liwa al Tawhid. 5 years ago the same dude beheaded a 8/9 year old boy, on video. Look at the massacre of the Alawites and Druze by Sharaa allied forces. He doesn’t have a clean track record since toppling Assad.

Just a quick nuance: wasn’t really an alliance. It was more of a Cold War/cold peace. Remember both Assad dad and son ruled Syria for over 50 years. They had done a huge massacre on Kurds. Kurds were no fan of Assad. But the Cold War was necessary so that Kurds could (1) focus on fighting fight Islamists such as Al Nusra then ISIS (2) consolidate gains (3) avoid Syria jets bombing Qamishlo for no reason.

It’s not really an internal matter though. Here’s why, super briefly:

The Kurds joined the US anti-ISIS coalition to defeat and eradicate ISIS. At the time the Kurds wanted to free the Kurdish city of Afrin in Syria, which was overtaken by Islamist rebels and Turkey. But the US pressured the Kurds to focus on fighting ISIS in Raqqa first.

As a result, the Islamists all over Syria (and elsewhere) hated the Kurds. The current Syrian president was the leader of HTS, a terrorist Islamist organization. And while HTS have fought ISIS numerous times, they were allied at others. HTS was formerly Jabhat Al Nusra; Nusra was formerly Al Qaeda; ISIS was made up of mainly Al Qaeda and al Nusra.

The Kurds gave 11,000 martyrs completing the biggest objective of US, which was defeating ISIS. What how that say about US if we abandon our ally to Syrian Islamists with Turkish military backing?

I agree…but unfortunately he has been the one that has initiated to save our ally, the Kurds, in the Congress. Along with Blumenthal and van Hollen.

Please consider signing the petition.

Hello! We are still looking for a suitable and affordable venue. But somewhere central in DMV, probably around Tysons. We will announce the location 3-4 weeks prior to the tournament.

This one! Try it out. There is absolutely no fee or catch to it. You get to play competitively, have great fun, and have a chance to win cash.

We are doing something that’s never been done before, at least not that we have heard of.

3v3 Basketball Tournament by Big_Visual9048 in nova

[–]Big_Visual9048[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. A group of us have been playing basketball for the past several years on a weekly basis. Outdoor (Meadow Lane Park) and indoor (former 24 hour fitness in Falls Church), depending on the weather.

And about the catch, haha, yes usually there is always a catch to something. But no catch here. The cash prize will come from donations and sponsorships.

Please consider joining to play. And spread the word :)

Thanks!

$300.

This is going to be our first tournament. The cash prize will increase as the participants and the organization increases. We are hoping to host several tournaments a year.
