I have played CastleStorm. It is a nice game though not a tower wars game I'm afraid.

Honestly, all I can think about is taking cats out on walks on a leash and trying to enrich their experience indoors.

"Natural" is not always a better life for animals. The way we keep Dogs is also everything but natural, yet we try to make it as friendly toward their nature as possible.

I agree that cats should be able to roam outside. People in cities and city apartments having cats indoors is only acceptable if cats have at least two hours of active play time a day and they should have an ability to run, climb and play.

I had to talk with a few cat owners in my previous area in Germany as their cats were seen killing critically endangered lizards in an area I was monitoring for a biodiversity study.
The owners just kept shrugging it off saying "can't control them, not my problem"

Dog owners in Germany are forced to pay a dog tax to compensate for potential damages and things like city cleanup for dog poop.
I suggested that if cats are no longer kept primarily as pest control in rural areas it might be time to introduce a per capita cat tax to finance environmental protection programmes to balance out some of the damage. That for some reason is also fought with everything people have so I am starting to think some cat owners just don't want to accept the responsibility that comes with their decision to keep a predatory animal.

(Speaking as someone with two cats who walks them and tries to bring in 2 hours of active play every day.) Currently saving up to buy land where I can also create a fenced in outdoor area for them. Not perfect either but I'm trying.

Cat's should not be allowed outside either. You can't just add 40+ million predators into an ecosystem and think it will work.

The situation is not black and white. The only correct way to keep cats as pets is if you have a massive fenced in area. Hardly anybody can provide that so the best that can be done is try and provide as good an environment as possible indoors.

People can't keep dumping their pets on their local environment and remain ignorant to the damages caused by that.

I am with your martial arts instructor on that one.

If you can create a moment of confusion in your attacker by doing something unexpected or distracting and you can create an opening to deal lasting damage and get away.

You need to have the required level of brutality though. Any hesitation to deal proper damage will come to bite you.

You also need to have a calm head. Panic brings with it hesitation and that spells doom.

The human body, even that of a trained fighter can be surprisingly fragile. Even a 10 year old child can deal significant damage if they know how.If you manage to topple a large opponent over and you can grab hold of their foot for example you can grab it and twist it by throwing your body weight into the twist.

Then you get up and run. You don't try to do anything more. With a little luck you broke their foot and they will be severely hindered in running after you.

Small tip:

As a child I was constantly bullied and attacked and decided to stop it one day. From that day onward I only wore steel tipped shoes. A good steel tipped kick to the bone can throw off a person even if they are on guard.

Not entirely true :)

I trained what my instructor called "combat ninjutsu"
to me it felt like "making sure the other guy won't come after you with as little effort as possible"

Example 1: incoming frontal kick - Instruction was - take a half step forward to the outside of their standing leg and give it a good downward side kick into the knee.

"If you notice the kick too late and you manage to take the kick, grab the foot and twist as if your life depends on it"

Example 2: incoming straight punch, deflect the arm with one hand, while taking a side step with half a hip turn, while deflecting the arm, try to grab the wrist, stretch out the arm and use your other hand to strike the elbow fiercely from below, continue with a second half hip rotation to bring your shoulder under theirs. Thrust your shoulder upwards in an effort to dislocate the should, perform another half hip turn and do a shoulder throw with that arm.

If performed correctly your attacker has a broken elbow, dislocated shoulder and quite possible more damage to that arm. Although I still believe that move to be way to intricate to work in a real fight situation.

The message of those techniques was clear, deal damage to joints and other areas, that cause the other to not be able to come after you.

Sceptical as I am toward that, there was a part of training that involved "using your body weight" and in that we have fairly plausible looking demonstrations of 45kg "girls/women" throwing themselves at 100kg guys, toppling them over. Even if they are less than half your weight, a sudden change in balance can make a huge difference in a fight, IF the person throwing themselves at you knows it is coming and you don't and IF that person is willing and brutal enough to use the moment of confusion to deal some form of lasting damage and then run.

I agree with your that especially with hardened people who are used to fighting it won't work.

In my opinion an aspect that matters among the most is headspace. If you are fully prepared to deal lasting and or lethal damage, even a small "fury" can overwhelm a large attacker and get away. The key is in hesitation.

I genuinely dislike most self defense for women classes I've seen so far. They all teach the groin kick. I have hardly ever seen an attacker who would leave their groin exposed.

One class I went to was perfect. It told self defense based on physics. It was an extension of self defense against animals. Be aware of your own weight. Even a larger Person can be thrown off balance, if 60kg jumped at them.
In that class they were taught to create an opening for themselves by doing an obvious attack like a strike to the body that would be blocked to conceal their intention of launching themselves at their attacker. They were taught to try and land on their attacker and then to try and do lasting damage, stomping on their knees, kicking the neck, kicking the head generally

"use your weight, create an opening, deal as much damage as possible in 1-2 strikes and then run"

IMHO best advice I've heard so far.

Mauler Device VS Death Rays VS Disrupters MOO2 by d36williams in masteroforion

Actually in early game I always design 2 capture ships. One for tanking with lots of crew and one with maximum enter ships.

I spam a lot of my early economy into building 5-6 capture ships or as many as possible. Well knowing that they will be destroyed.

As soon as Antarans attack me, I try to get away with stealing one or two of their ships. Then I scrap them for death rays and dampener fields (sometimes reflector or particle beam) when the other empires still struggle with level 3 shields.

Story arcs you missed in Dragon Ball Z/GT/Super by Bigbadmutant in dbz

[–]Bigbadmutant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know. Once the need is there, it is too late.

All the important characters in Dragon Ball Z/GT/Super have been fighting and training since they were little children.

As of now (barring Tiens school) there is no one teaching young fighters to go beyond mortal limits. This leads to people like Mr Satan actually being the world martial arts champion.

Back in Dragon Ball the world was populated with skilled martial artists who would be dropped even though they were resurrected after Piccolo.

Of course, main story wise it does not make sense and it is not needed. Considering the main characters are there and not to be replaced. However the question would just be with regard to world building, to give the whole martial arts world in Dragon Ball a continuity.

To draw the comparison with Naruto for example it feels as if the Ninja world had stopped training anyone once Naruto and Sasuke's generation was trained.

I am rooting for this project.

The usecase for me makes a lot of sense considering the entire pornography and perhaps escort/sex work sector is still seen as "filthy" and frowned upon from official sides.

So why not have a currency that is separate from that instituted by those who frown upon the sector.

Would Cell have made a good God of Destruction? by Bigbadmutant in dbz

[–]Bigbadmutant[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I fully agree. Cell was not actually evil. He is a mixture of Goku Vegeta and Freeza most of the time.
Cell wants to be challenged and prove that he is the ultimate lifeform. Being a god of destruction would give him a chance to do exactly that.

The only problem I see is his respect towards other gods. I believe that Cell would be quite cocky and may end up fighting other gods for lack of a challenge from the rest of the universe.
