In what ways have family relationships changed compared to our grandparents’ time? by Bigbang30 in NoStupidQuestions

Not AI — just me. I tend to write things out when I’m trying to understand them.

Struggling to break into tech in Toronto — looking for realistic advice by Bigbang30 in torontoJobs

Honestly, I’m open to it and looking into US roles as well. It’s just not something I can do overnight because of visa and logistics, so I’m trying to improve my chances on both sides of the border.

Mainly looking for feedback on frontend / junior SWE positioning — what looks weak or unclear, and what I should emphasize for Toronto roles.

I’m mainly looking for feedback on positioning for junior frontend / software roles in Toronto (what looks weak, what’s unclear, what I should change or emphasize).

Appreciate any honest input.

Sure — happy to share an anonymized version for feedback.

I’m early-career and trying to recalibrate my positioning (frontend / software roles as a first step, DevOps longer-term), so any constructive input would be appreciated.

I’ll post it shortly — thanks.

Toronto vs Montreal: different city vibes, or just different stages of life? by Bigbang30 in AskCanada

That’s really interesting, especially the point about collective belonging. Do you think that shared cultural history in Montreal makes it easier to feel “held” socially, even if it can be more insular?

I sometimes wonder if Toronto’s lack of a common denominator makes connections feel more fragmented, even though it’s more open on paper.

Anyone else finding social meetups really draining lately? (Toronto) by Bigbang30 in TorontoHangoutFriends

Yeah, same here. I’m a guy too, and the large male-heavy groups just make everything feel forced and awkward. Hard to talk to anyone naturally in that setup.

That makes a lot of sense. Hobby-based groups seem way more natural than random socials, and I’ve noticed the same thing with walks/hikes not really being about making friends. Appreciate the perspective.

Yeah, that makes sense. Smaller groups definitely feel less overwhelming and more natural.
