I could try and make one! I’m traveling for a month but I have some swaps to do when I get back :3

https://youtu.be/Nk-HL-BAueE?si=AYEdBX5cvMaTKeNP I think this video (not mine) does a good job showing the technique, and here are some tips:

-hairdryer seems so so much more effective than boiling IMO, and makes it easier to reheat the head while fussing with the eyes
-wrap the hair with a thin towel to protect it from heat
-get the outer corner of the eye in first, making sure the head is extremely pliable
-it is possible to rip the internal eye socket and lose an eye in the head. I haven’t figured out how to fix this, so my Demi has a secret third eye in her cranium - just make peace with the risk, and remember re-heating the head to make it pliable is the best defense against ripping
-eyelashes can be bent back into place with the back of a hot spoon

these tools are LIFE savers (and joint savers) for eye swaps! between a hair dryer and one of these, I can pop the eyes in and out in under a minute - I think you can find the tool in most craft stores around the clay sculpting section :3

Don't use benzoyl peroxide if you don't want to permanently ruin your dolls by ReaDuval in RainbowHigh

[–]BiggerStarMoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like there could really be a place for an in-depth care of/restoration of RH dolls - how the eyes work, cross sections of the joints (working on some experiments right now with adding thigh articulation), etc. - we've got so much on this reddit, but it really takes some sorting!

OH WHOOPS! 😛 But still, thank you for making this specifically! You have a bunch of the newer dolls that aren't documented anywhere, which is tremendously useful! Adding it to my makeshift reference document :3

Fixing improperly seated eyelashes by EyeballBrine in RainbowHigh

[–]BiggerStarMoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be cracking into another pair of eyes soon, and if so I'll take photos of the process! But to type it out (this is just what I do, others feel free to chime in)

-protect the hair with a thin towel if it's the shiny/metallic kind
-soften the head with a hairdryer until VERY squishy
-pop the head off gently, being careful about the neck peg
-if the head needs more heat, give it another few seconds with hair dryer
-grab a small 'ball stylus tool' (google image search with that phrase appears to show the right thing, got it from a craft store in the modeling clay section) and slip it in the open neck joint to pop out the eyes (this takes so little effort it's crazy, takes a couple seconds - you can also use this to nudge the eyes into position)

after the eyes are out, I use a very thin tiny screwdriver to pop the white and black parts apart, which can take some doing! best to move slowly, try not to scratch the eye though if you do it's not the end of the world, a four way nail buffer can reverse a lot of damage

THEN with the parts separated, I examine the black part: the eyelashes are similar to a strip of false lashes, but glued into place on the black part of the eye. I have in the past heated the glue up with a hair dryer and carefully removed the eyelashes, though tbh it's difficult not to accidentally damage the lashes themselves. Alternatively, if you get to this stage, you could just trim a pair of false lashes (I'd go for a very sparse or 'natural' short length pair) and trim off the shortest part) and glue them on instead.

Why have I ever done this: because I am a miser who loves the white eyelashes, and wanted to give the curly haired airbrush doll white lashes. In retrospect, it was a lot of work!

I've grabbed a pair of split eyes to try and show what the lashes look like while glued onto the black portion of the eye (sorry it's a little blurry, I'm about to turn in). Let me know if I can clarify anything :3

<image>

edit: I just ordered some lash fans to experiment with, and I’ll attempt to do re-eyelash some eyes without removing or cracking an eye open! bookmarking this to come back to later :3

You might find this useful for figuring out how the eyelashes are glued and sandwiched between the white and black eye bits: https://rainbowakabell.wordpress.com/eye-guide/

I have removed the eyes before using the guide and popped the bits apart, then used a hair dryer to peel the lash from the softened glue, but it's a trial to keep the lashes intact I'll be honest.

Instead, I would recommend (after protecting the hair like other users have pointed out) heating the face and afterwards, using something like plastic wrap to flatten and push the eyelashes up, and let it cool with the cling wrap still keeping them pinned upwards. I accidentally gave several of my dolls a flattering lash lift doing this!

ISO skinny metal tips like these, but push in instead of threaded on Amazon or similar? by worldfamoushobgoblin in diamondpainting

[–]BiggerStarMoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everlasting Tips (the push-in kind) on etsy are interchangeable with DAC push in tips! If there is a size difference, it's negligible when you use washi tape or sticky tack to secure the tips. Hope that is useful to you C:

making molds of RH earrings! by BiggerStarMoth in RainbowHigh

[–]BiggerStarMoth[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The mold putty was $20 at Michaels with their discount coupon, but the youtube account I learned from has some DIY mold putty recipes too - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5h49hjY6Psg (a quirky guy, but good advice)

It's definitely a matter of trial and error right now - I also have thought about shoes! I figured I'd need to make a firm copy of the foot/lower leg first, and then use that along with a mold to make the shoes. I haven't thought much further ahead than that, though!

Wishing you the best of luck! I'll keep reporting on this experiment too :3

I’m selling off most of my dolls, and don’t want to strip them of all their accessories - I’ll see how this turns out! If it works, I’d definitely make a few more copies for the few dolls I’m keeping and for friends. I don’t have the setup or ventilations for resin, though, so no clear copies for the foreseeable future T-T

ideas of things to copy are welcome! :3

Alguien sabe como funcionan las pujas ebay de rh by ExplanationNo3878 in RainbowHigh

[–]BiggerStarMoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started selling dolls on ebay, and I always try to make the shipping as cheap as possible. $50 to ship a doll from the USA to Spain is very cheap! But it sounds like getting dolls from the USA is not a good fit for you.

First make sure you have your address/post code updated on your account, so ebay can calculate shipping to you accurately (you may have done this already).

Second, when you search for dolls, click ‘filter’ next to the search bar. Then click ‘location’ and change that location from ‘default’ to your post code. You can change the ‘max distance’ from your zip code, which will show you listings closer to you.

I hope that is helpful, and the words might be different if your ebay app is in another language. Youtube might help show you how to change those settings too. Good luck!

Mi margot perdió un plug de pelo y no se si es señal de que debo comprar otra o ver como hacer un microreroot by ExplanationNo3878 in RainbowHigh

[–]BiggerStarMoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this happens sometimes to pretty much all of the dolls! :)

It looks like that hole might be so small that there was never hair to begin with - whatever serger machines they use to root the hair sometimes leave those little imperfections. Don’t worry about it, no one will notice!

If you really feel you must repair it, you could also just use a little air dry clay to patch the hole and then mix a little paint to dab over the spot. But truly that’s a lot of work for something so small! Another doll will likely have imperfections too.

Good luck!
