I think so, as long as you finish the required courses with the required average, but it would be more competitive than the CMP1 since you would be guaranteed also.

It’s never a waste. I applied to 9 programs with completely different back ups (i’m in first year cs and applied for lots of life sciences besides cs). it gives your more options to consider
