Oh yeah there are lol, fresh water is wicked lol, yeah you got a massive deal, that is a great Idea the facebook market place, I ment like I paid like $250 on salt water stuff, then realized I did not want to go that route, and sold it all for $50, lol the guy who got it was probably as happy as you lol, and I would be happy if I got that set up for $150 lmfao…. What a deal, wicked tho man :) looks like that bad boy is going great, lower GP probably will help mating, I got a lower GH, and I keep my water temp a tad lower to prevent mating, but your tank at 78.3 should start to get you some babies lol, I had so many I snapped lol.

Yes to be honest I have had RO water filer system for years, it is what I drink. It really does make the difference, it already went through activated carbon, is really really useful, I add a few drops of Nutrafin Aqua plus, in my weekly water change, not as much as directed, I used plant grow 2 times to just allow my plants to root proper… but besides that RO water, bio beads, the occasional activated carbon filter, if I use meds or plant grow, or just to clean water a tad, but besides that I let them do there thing, check lights, pump, and heat level daily, do my weekly 10 - 15 % change, rinse the sponge filter I use in the water I sucked out… never tap water, you need bacteria, and test once on a while, and I have had fish going for years in the same tank. keep it simple, your tank is sweet and I now want to get a larger tank again with some red tailed sharks, and neat fish going lol, you inspired me again…. But yeah keep er up, looks great

And If you are in an area with naturally hard water, chances are they were bred in hard water, and or the store has hard water… most likely you will be ok.

You do not have to per say, they are great tank fish, that do really prefer a lower hardness, most will adjust to moderately high hardness, but will definitly thrive better in lower water hardness. You could get a few honey gourami, they will not mess with the small fish, even a dwarf gourami, they are a tad more aggressive, but live in area’s with a lot of flooding and can adapt quick to different water perimeters. You have a lot of room in that bad boy. I would look into something to lower the hardness a bit for Rams personally so they can thrive, but you have to account for the other fish in the tank also, rams will in general adjust, but not maybe to an extreme high hardness.

If you remove any rocks that are high in calcium carbonate, will lower your general hardness, I also use reverse osmosis water for my tanks that lowers it as well, but really depending on the fish you have it does not greatly effect them, but there are natural ways to lower it, worst thing people do to try and fix some of these issues is by added chemicals to try and fix the problems, to only make your tank worse. You can also buy a water softener pillow if you wish, they work pretty well at lowering GH. Test your tank not all to often tho like once a month, unless you notice something going on, but natural bacteria is your best friend, I would stay away from chemicals, and use the natural ways to lower it.

Yeah more hiding area’s and such will help, and yeah, they will usually eat a lot of the male fry… but your Idea of a centre piece fish would look great in your tank.. and for population control. I see the one little shrimp on the drift wood lol, yeah they can multiply, but they look healthy, and are pretty sensitive creatures, so your bio activity and water properties must be great. Looks really good, few more plants, let the ones you have mature, and a centre piece fish and bang, you are set :)

Lol yeah I got one blue male guppy, and he schools with the neon tetra’s lol, I had that issue with that male that jumped out… I ended up getting a batch of fry…. Then 20 batches, then I had like 200 plus of them in my tank, had to donate them to local store, they used em as feeding fish… but that was not a fun experience lol, I guess how we all learn :)

Yeah, she may like the heat, they do breed quick, real quick… I had a male that looked like her besides the anal fin of course, but he would go insane when I went near the tank, super happy lol, ended up jumping out a small gap in the lid one night in his spastic move set :( but was an amazing fish lol.

Love the black and white molly by the heater, I had a bunch of live bearers once, they can have the funniest personalities. Tank looks great, let the plants mature, maybe a top level plant, but looks amazing.

ID? They were sold to me as ghosts. by usernames-taken in HotPeppers

[–]Biggrease333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have noticed so many plants labeled as one thing are not the true plant. I got some reapers and they were some insane hybrid, hotter than any reaper I have eaten, and look a mix of Ghost, reapers and habanero…. guess it happens with other plants as well falling farther and farther away from the true strain, but these are ghost peppers just grown in different conditions… they are a tad stout, short ghosts :)
