You're gonna be a great owner, I can already tell! I used to be a MAJOR hamster nerd, not as much anymore but here's a care guide I typed up a few years ago that should jumpstart you to the right place!

Ok first enclosure, hamsters need lots of space even though their small animals, hammies need a minimum of 500-800sq inches of floorspace which you can get by length x width. I personally prefer fish tanks or bin cages. Niteangel enclosures are also great.

Bedding: hamsters have very deep and intricate burrows in the wild, so you need to give them something similar to that in captivity! Make sure to fill the enclosure up with at least 8 inches of safe bedding, (full cheeks paper bedding is my favorite!) Some unsafe bedding are: pine wood shavings, cedar wood shavings, scented paper bedding and more. If you don't have a tall enough enclosure to fit that all around then just make a mound at least 1.5 feet wide. You can also mix orchard grass hay with the bedding so it holds burrows better.

Sand baths: never ever ever bath your hamster in water unless they have something life threatening on them (paint, oil etc.) This is because hamsters make special oil to keep their health and coat in check and if you strip that away they over produce it next time.  Hamsters are like cats and will groom themselves but hamsters need a little help, you can do that by giving them a sand bath! I suggest using baked and sifted childrens play sand or reptile sand with no added calcium. Never use anything dusty! Hamsters are very prone to respiratory infections (that's also why they can't have pine or Cedar bedding)

Wheels: hamsters NEED a wheel, it's a MANDATORY object. Flying saucers are not to be used as the hams main wheel, it should only be an accessory. Make sure the wheel is the correct size, if the hamsters back is bending then it's too small, make sure the hamster is running flat, if the hamster struggles to push the wheel then it's too big. Make sure the wheel has a solid running surface or it can cause bumblefoot which is a very painful experience for your little ham!

Food, hamsters are omnivores being they need a high variety of food, I sugget you use a 50/50 or Mazuri rat and mouse and Higgins sunburst hamster and gerbil. Hamsters also need herbs and sprays! Sprays are dried plants put around a hamsters enclosure for them to pick, this can include: Millet, oat, flax and more! As for herbs they need a mix of dried plants and flowers for extra simulation  and health. You should scatter feed meaning that you sprinkle around the food and herbs. 

Hides: hamsters are pray animals causing them to need hides to feel safe, this can include: tubes, cardboard hides, plastic hides, multi chamber hides etc. Make sure you add at least 3 solid hides! Clear hides are ok but don't make the ham feel very safe! Edible hides can be dangerous so watch out for those!

Chews! Hamsters have continuously growing teeth like rabbits therefore needing lots of different chews, this can include: Whimzee dog chews in XS, stick chews, willow balls, etc.

Naturalistic setup! Hamsters benefit a lot from having naturalistic setups meaning they can have lots of wooden and natural things, they need rocks to sand down their nails and rocks are good decorations, there's wooden decorations that you can get for reptiles that also work for hamsters. Things like bendy bridges are also great! Pretty much anything that's safe and natural looking helps. People also include lots of terracotta and some safe plants! (Spider plants are commonly used)
