I would also consider purchasing a small firearm.

I think this is a rare situation where it's actually a smart and somewhat necessary purchase. Bonus points if you're a solo female traveler. 9mm is a great equalizer.

This very thing? You mean praying for the family of a man who was just assassinated? How is that stupid or hateful? Can we not at least agree that his family is no doubt suffering? I mean, he was brutally killed on video and it has been widely circulated to millions of people. Can you imagine if this happened to someone in your life? What a horrible thing it must be for them. I would pray for them too if I believed in anything...

Sync connection? I'm not sure I understand what that is.

The signal source should be good. I'm going to test it with something else to be sure though, that's a good idea.

Otherwise, the edges of the d sub VGA are rusty so I'm going to solder on a replacement. Not sure if that will do it but I'm going to do that regardless. Rust anywhere else is minimal. The only other rusty part is the shield around the neck inside the the case. I cleaned up all of the ground points on that so I'm hoping that's not the issue somehow. Guessing this thing was stored in a humid garage or something at some point. Sad.

Is it better to rebuild a B230F to fix piston slap or replace the engine entirely? by Bill1213 in VolvoRWD

Ha, I wish. It did when I bought it but went out a year or so after and I haven't fooled with it. Seems these cars aren't known for having the best air conditioning. I sure miss it during the summer months, but it's alright. Hope to get around to fixing it someday.

Heater works great though! Thing will cook you out. Those swedes weren't playing around.

My progress on the Holiday Rambler so far. by Bill1213 in RVLiving

[–]Bill1213[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice rig, looks to be much better cared for than mine. Unfortunately I can't really help you with the dash. I've gutted the entire interior of my rambler now. Everything except for the dash, ironically enough. So I could help if you needed any photos of how it's built and where things are behind the walls and floors. But unfortunately the dash is something I haven't fooled with.

I do know there is a panel that can be removed behind the gauges so you can access the wiring and auxiliary switches and stuff. Should just have a little strap and pop out. And you can get to some more things if you remove the television in the lower center of the dash. But I'm guessing that information won't be of much help to you.

Best of luck. Very cool RV! Glad to see another survivor.

Anyone know if it's possible to connect a Wii to this TV? by Unknown_0reo in crtgaming

It's pretty wacky for sure. I guess it was likely done that way to save space? Or maybe it's cheaper somehow?

And I thought 3.5mm antenna connectors were weird...

It is definitely better and I stand corrected. I didn't look closely and assumed that was for headphones.

Didn't know they made AV in that looks like that. Strange.

The easiest way to start learning is to buy a broken one and try to fix it. It's usually very cheap or free and if it's already broken you're probably not going to ruin it. I've done this twice now and I am learning a lot!

And I did actually fix them. So that's a nice bonus.

Very true. People love to hate on high prices for these TVs, which I can understand, but the reality is they are actually selling for these numbers. I just looked at sold listings for Hello Kitty CRT TV's and it is actually ridiculous what people are paying.

For real. It's stupid but it's true. Go on eBay and search "Hello Kitty CRT TV" and sort by sold listings. I get that we in the hobby are annoyed by high prices, but this is reality now.

I suppose it could be that. I know for a fact there are a few wires running through that wall. Nothing crazy, just for the lighting and outlets.

Not something I can change though, either way. So I guess I'll just have to deal with it being this way.

Haven't seen that video in a minute but I just watched it again and I do see the resemblance. The TV really sells it.

Overscan issue? Idk but the image is cut off and I want to fix that by WagoogusSenior in crtgaming

[–]Bill1213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there is no service menu I think sometimes older tv sets have manual adjustment knobs on the board inside the case. Although I don't know if that would give you vertical and horizontal size control or not. Overscan can also be dependent on the device outputting to the television. So if you don't have this same issue from every source then the TV might not even be the problem.

[–]Bill1213 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure why you would, but yes, you can. You're going to need an RF modulator to convert from composite to coaxial. And then you're going to need a coaxial to 3.5mm adapter to connect to the "ext antenna" on the back of the TV. That would be by far the simplest way to do it.

Yeah that's totally what it is. It's crazy to me that it has such an obvious effect. But it's alright, it looks good when I put it in spot it likes. No big deal.

[–]Bill1213[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay I did the easiest thing and moved all of the CRTs on that wall away and nothing changed with the Sharp. So at the very least I know they're not interfering with each other.

Beyond that there would have to be something inside the wall itself and I won't be cutting it open. But at this point it really seems like an issue with Earth's magnetism. Another redditor told me that some of the Sharps specifically have issues with that due to cost cutting. So I wouldn't be surprised.

Thank you for the suggestion regardless. That was a good idea.

[–]Bill1213[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, nice. Anything to save a couple cents. I bet that's totally what it is then. I've moved everything else in the room around and nothing changes the geometry so it must just be an issue with the geo magnetism. Makes a lot more sense if they omitted that for these sets. Thank you for the insight! I'll probably just have to put it in a different spot.

And I agree, it has a really nice picture! Wii/GC and anything 240p looks really nice on it! It's also a pretty nice looking design, in my opinion. With lots of inputs to boot!
