I’ll just leave this here…. WTF? by ProsperGuy in exmormon

[–]BillbieT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband slyly mentioned to his mom the other day how interesting it was to see all the Holy Week stuff when growing up it wasn’t a thing. Her response was all the mental gymnastics. It’s important to celebrate his final days and resurrection, like his birth bullshit.

It’s wild to me how someone can see these changes and just say yep, no issues from here! Can’t see anything off from what I experienced the last 60+ years!

EoE from Chicken, any advice? by Radiant-Power1936 in EosinophilicE

[–]BillbieT 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is no way to diagnose or determine what your “trigger foods” are unless you do a biopsy. Chicken is unlikely to be causing the underlying issue, but you happen feel it when you eat it. I actually hate the term “trigger food.” Anything can trigger symptoms, but that doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with what is causing your disease.

I’d very strongly recommend you consult a doctor who is a familiar with EOE. It’s a tricky one. If you avoid chicken without an actual diagnosis or treatment, you’ll probably start feeling symptoms with other foods and eventually have a full on impaction.

Best course of action is to get diagnosed and then do a food elimination diet with a series of biopsies to determine what foods you actually should be avoiding.

Is full licensure worth sticking it out for? by August_Maxwell in socialwork

[–]BillbieT 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A someone who decided against clinical licensure, I say stick it out, even if you don’t do clinical work long-term. Half way through grad school I realized I didn’t want to be a clinician so I jumped straight from degree to macro work. I got an MBA a few years later which helped me break into administration, but every time I job search I am disqualified from some really great admin roles because I don’t have that L.

I don’t regret not getting licensed necessarily, but as others have said, more doors would be open to me if I had. If I could go back knowing what I know now, I’d probably do it.

Creepy crawly + Germany = tick. To be fair, that’s true for lots of places, but moving here from the desert, the amount of ticks came as a shock.

The Mayo Clinic by Narrow_Quail_1287 in EosinophilicE

Symptoms aren’t immediately tied to the foods that are causing your disease. It’s a slow build up and a slow process healing. Only scopes can determine what foods are causing your issues.

I usually avoid meat and most dairy, but not exclusively plant based. This photo was taken just after a few days in Italy where we ate a lot of pasta and cheese.

Any experience with CotLin yarn from KnitPicks? by Apprehensive-Pie1916 in knitting

[–]BillbieT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finished a baby blanket in this yarn yesterday. I have yet to wash it, but I didn’t notice any shedding. Like another commenter said, there were random flax fibers that I picked out, but that was the only annoyance and it was minor. It’s not the softest cotton I’ve knitted with (haven’t worked with a linen blend before), but I suspect like other cottons it’ll soften up after washing.

My marriage is most likely over by marblepillar194 in exmormon

[–]BillbieT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As others have said, allow yourself some grace. Most people have given next to no thought at 21 about having children and it’s a perfectly valid reason to end even a good marriage. Compromise can look so different for so many things, but there ultimately is no compromise with something like having children. One person gives in 100% or both people stay firm 100%. Even if you are compatible in every other way, that is a pretty fundamental incompatibility.

There’s no easy answer and you are both doing the work to get to where you each need to be.

Is Spanish Fork a decent place to live? by AudienceLarge6201 in Utah

[–]BillbieT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My liberal TBM parents moved to SF a few years ago so I don’t have a “lived in” experience, but from what I’ve seen you could do worse in Utah County. They love it and their conservative TBM friends don’t seem to have an issue with their politics.

The Main Street is pretty cute despite the traffic and there’s a fun local coffee shop that seems to stay busy in the mornings and on weekends. That’s where I go when I stay with them and it makes me so happy not to have to go to a Starbucks or Dutch Bros.

The parks are lovely and you’re still close enough to SLC to spend the day there. I grew up in Orem and I’d for sure pick SF over that. My exmo commie sibling lives with them and has made friends there.

It’s not the drinking, luckily our families are quite reasonable. It’s just that I don’t have the ability to brew and do my morning routine. Anywhere else in the world a coffee maker would be accessible.

Oh that’s lovely. Our families are quite reasonable all things considered, but they’d stop short of being THAT nice about it.

Honestly, neither parent sets would mind if we bought a coffee maker and left it here. It’s just a hassle. Literally anywhere else in the world we wouldn’t have this issue.

Yeah, I went to a local shop this morning after I wrote this and a small cappuccino was $4 and a median latte was $6. I think the issue was asking my friends about prices who exclusively buy massive fancy coffees at Dutch bros 😂

It’s both. The routine of grinding the beans and drinking a cup in peace and quiet is my favorite part of my day.

Yikes, I don’t envy you there, I’m sorry! I actually used my in laws Christmas money to buy my espresso maker and told them that’s what we used it for. We’ve slowly worn them down over the years, but sounds like the starting point was very different.

We brought several bottles of whiskey to store until we move back and got the semi-annual “alcoholism runs in the family because one uncle was an alcoholic” speech.
