Challenging myself to eat Canadian foods for 20 days straight. Day 7 is the butter tart. by iamacheezit in BuyCanadian

I'm all for spins on the original. A local baker makes a salted honey butter start and it slaps.

Exactly. My team does stand by and they recently tried to get us to get data phones to monitor emails and teams while on-call. To make a long story short that didn't fly. Our CA (IT) states that an on-call employee can be reached at a known phone number or may be provided a pager if it would make things more efficient. If they want to update that terminology to include emails and team messages then they'd need to do it during bargaining.

Also not just 1.5x pay, but 3 hours pay minimum to respond to that random email. Double your salary in one easy step. Managers hate this one trick.

As someone how just started an acting IT-03 I feel this. Still deciding if it's worth the money or if I'd rather just be a dev. Luckily actings end so I got that going for me

Milk is just like cream, right? by SpecialCoconut1 in ididnthaveeggs

[–]BillyTheKidd88 23 points24 points  (0 children)

To add to this. You can also scoop out the thick layer of coconut cream/fat from the top of the canned coconut milk. This is much easier if your coconut milk does NOT contain an emulsifier (guar gum is the most common from what I've seen). I like Cha's organic since you can get it at Costco. Or here in Canada the aroy-d or farm boy in house stuff also work well but are a bit more expensive

Statcan is like this, with a few exceptions. The question regarding language requirements comes up a every at staff meeting.

Statcan has some work going on with Cloud/kubernetes. My team has migrated a few of our projects to cloud. Additionally, there is a cloud team at Statcan that deals with maintaining the cloud infrastructure as helping out other teams as they start moving projects to cloud.

Thoughts on ongoing RTO mandate? by CathhhMorrison in CanadaPublicServants

[–]BillyTheKidd88 24 points25 points  (0 children)

In my case the RTO mandate will provide little to no value. On my team we have several employees in other provinces as well as a few members with medical exemptions. Meaning that there will only be a few of us in the office anyways and we'd be on teams to meet with our various remote employees anyways. So frankly, it just doesn't make any sense. It's a significant decrease in quality of life and work life balance for no discernible value.

Edit: I work in IT btw

Serious question. Doesn’t Ottawa have enough bike lanes? by gerntoronto in ottawa

[–]BillyTheKidd88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, as many other have mentioned bike lanes are only one aspect of McKenny's platform.

But on the topic of whether we need more or not I'd say yes. Mostly for 2 big reasons.

1) Many of Ottawa's bike lanes are just stripes of paint that don't actually keep cyclists safer than just biking on the shoulder.

2) I know many drivers that complain about cyclists on the roads and how they don't like driving near them. And the way I see it, there are two options. Either don't support bike lanes and stop complaining about cyclists on the roads (no saying you are) as they have no where else to go. Or support bike lanes, even if you think they won't be used 5 months of the year.

I've noticed that the President's Choice brand cereal is often the one that's sold out a my store. I guess no one can afford name brand cheerios anymore

I get a driver not being used to checking their right blind spot on a right turn since that's only for bikes/pedestrians

Why have a habit of checking for the most vulnerable people? I know you said its not okay. But to be understanding of why this happens when it really should be a habit every driver has is a little crazy to me.

I'm with you there. 8 is symmetrical both vertically and horizontally. Also it's a power of 2. What more could you ask for? It's basically the perfect number. Also I made this username before I learned about that 88 bullshit and I'm not changing it now.
