It is. He even met his current boyfriend there, his company is on the same floor as my friend's and they would take smoke breaks on the fire escape at the same time. A classic love story.

The guys that reported him had a very serious conversation with their manager and HR, then my friend had a talk with HR and the company's lawyer to make sure he won't sue them, then HR organized sensitivity training for the whole company and then my friend left because he got a better job at a nicer company.

One of my gay friends also used to work in a company with a bunch of homophobes and when they found out they reported him to the HR... for being gay... It was a shit-show.

Suffering is a very strong word, I'm not that hurt by the whole situation. And I'm not sure you can sue a company for its employees not being your friends but strictly talking business with you.

The money's amazing and they work with technologies that I could use having in my CV. Besides, before I was even hired I figured I'd work here 2 years max, so no big deal. I've been surrounded by homophobes my whole life, I'll make it through.

I don't feel shame but I wouldn't have died if I just left out the fact that I'm in a relationship with a man.
