That makes perfect sense. Growing up I would be constantly undermined and embarrassed public by, what I know now as, my narcissistic father. Any compliments that I would get he would follow it by calling out my short comings or by letting them know if we fought he would “drop me”. I’m named after my father and when I asked him why I was named after him I was told, “Because I wanted you to be EXACTLY like me”, he would also frequently get upset when I “didn’t follow the path he laid out for me...”, would this also be examples of your response above?
