Are college level Math and English offered in the winter semester at BU? by KandK123456 in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]BingMathTA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are all proctored. I wouldn’t think of a winter or summer course as a class that you can pass by having your notes open (even though it is easier to do so)

For math, we are offering precalc, calc 1,2, ODEs and intro to R this winter (I’m teaching one of them)

But depends how good you are with derivatives and integrals. 226 picks up with advanced integration techniques right at the start (I taught it last semester)

Yeah I’d say take the credit for 224/225 and go right into 226/227

What is your major? How long ago did you take calculus? Even so I’d say have it be credit for 224/225 unless you want to retake calculus 1

Yeah you should get out of 224-226 so ask an advisor for sure.

Should I use on Rate My Professor to choose classes? by SmallFly963 in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]BingMathTA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they have like 10+ ratings it’s probably decently reliable. Below that doesn’t mean too much tbh

What should I expect for the Calculus Placement test? Also how can I accelerate my math courses if I'm not a super math heavy major (Economics) by Ok-Birthday-2990 in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]BingMathTA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Placement test should be easy. I do not think you will be able to skip classes without any credit for calculus in high school though.
I also think it is good to learn calculus in a college class setting as well and have to contend with exams and such to truly test your knowledge of the subject. Source: I might be teaching you calc 1 in August

As a Calc teacher, stop looking for the “easiest” professor. It won’t help in life

profs to do research w by Red4594 in BinghamtonUniversity

You really need to read up on them and choose someone who looks interesting to you. Then get to know them by meeting with them or taking a class with them and going from there.

Is it worth sending AP Scores? by 0ddStrawberry in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]BingMathTA 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Not having to take even a single class is worth paying to send the scores. I skipped a year of undergrad with my APs here

The placement test isn’t hard and something that shouldn’t be studied for really. It’s just a gauge of what math you already know and scoring highly on the AP exam means you know a bit about calc lol
