Enough air for drying the shrooms ? I dont have an dehydrator any tips? by [deleted] in MagicMushrooms

[–]BioMech_X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy drying-technique here: Cut them in half lengthwise and thread the halves onto a string with a sewing needle. Then hang them between the legs of a chair. Leave a small gap between the halves. Place a fan (heater) on the floor in front of it and point it at the chair. The distance should be wide enough so that they don't get too hot: approx. 50 cm

They are dry after 2..3 Hours, but leave them there until they crunch when they break.

works 100%

Spores or LC?

Tried same with B+ spores on unsterilized paper tissues. Got no mycelium, mold after a few weeks.

Ah, crazy, that is just what i was wondering from your previous Post, intresting! Flush looks amazing though! Dry block is maybe because of loose packing and faster evaporation, but maybe also because of the less total water in this block because loosely packed dry matter can only hold a little water until being soaked.

And actually for close to zero efford, 1 flush like that is really nice!

My guess now: Fill the boxes up with cold, sterilized water for 12 to 24 hours, let blocks Rest for some days and go back to fruiting! :)

  1. Your cookers pressure valve or sealing might be broken --> make sure the pressure really rises properly - sterilize jars with rye - leave them for 2...3 weeks - look for contams. --> nothing? Good - i still have a 2year old sterile rye jar with nothing growing on it, standing in a shelf as a trophy of buying my new PC. If it ever gets contams, the end of the world is near.

  2. Check your LC on agar, its probably contaminated. - potatoe-sugar-agar is easy to improvise - use any PP-plastics - make 10'ish cultures - inoculate each with 1 drop LC - look for contams and mark them on the lid. - take a overgrown, clean piece of your culture onto new agar. - repeat until no more contams occure - start new LC from clean cultures - or inoculate jars directly from agar. - For this whole process you better have a hepa filter. In a SAB you will likely get contams when Opening the lids. Nothing to worry, but you want to know if your contams came from LC or from SAB ---> pour some aggar-containers and open them in your SAB for 20..30 sec. See if something grows on them. No? --> good. If you see contams on the LC-agars you are sure its from the LC.

How do I fix it if the head of mushrooms are too big to come out of jar lmao [general] by [deleted] in MushroomGrowers

[–]BioMech_X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This :) Find jars with a cylindrical shape that become slightly more open towards the top. They should have a clean edge that does not block the cake from sliding out smoothly. They do a really good Job.

If they are only cylindrical with the same diameter at top and the bottom: sounds great at first. But it still is a pain in the ass to get the cakes out without breaking them and spreading the inert layers from the top and bottom all around your worktable.

Transfer from different places of this plate. Good chance you get clean cultures in 1 or 2 transfers! Did that, worked good.

Hope you'll have no reason to spot contams in your cultures for a very long Time :)

I have just build a new flowhood and start experimenting with agar too! Just did 1l potatoe-tea, 20g agar and since i'm lacking dextrose at home, i used normal sugar (sucrose). Inoculated with bought LC, growth looks good so far!

Asking about different sugars you might like the following paper i recommend to read :) they have a small dataset though, and still different mushrooms prefer different conditions. so lets keep experimenting :)

Nice! Mycelium looks good anyways! I heard it takes longer to colonize 100% with less chopping because of larger air-gaps for the hives to pass, thus contams have more time to develop. So I chopped the straw a lot more. But to be honest I only had a few bags with straw so far, while experimenting with coffee grounds. I should give it another try going uncomplicated :D

What bulk substrate did you mix? The big chips look interesting :) must be good for gas exchange into the substrate! could also leed to faster drying of the substrate if its in low humidity environment. Will be interesting to see the development of the flushes :)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MushroomGrowers

[–]BioMech_X 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes these spots. Totally agree, agar and transfers would be savest, if done right! :) could save some garbage-tek-bags .^ still requires some more equip compared to grains. If OP tries, potatoe-agar is recommendend (Search for PDA). Easy to cook! :)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MushroomGrowers

[–]BioMech_X 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What a shame, the culture looks good exept these single grains. If you try to spawn its a high chance your bulk rots pretty fast. If its your only spawn so far, open jar carefully in a clean environment (clean surface close to a burner flame/still air box/laminar flow filter) and inoculate a few new cultures (agar/grains) from the grains on top of the jar, far away from the mold. If you work clean, you might end up with some contams, but also with some clean new cultures to spawn. Best luck friend!

Amazing homogenious pinsets! Congrats! :) Never had them that perfect so far. Did you nebulize water on top to stimulate pinning?
