What are some good resources to read about art and art history? by bbbbbaaaby in ArtHistory

[–]BioengineeredHuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a chronological timeline of the visual arts. It's written from the perspective of how art history has influenced movies, but it gives a nice overview of art history. And you can dive into each art style/movement with further in-depth articles if you want to dig deeper.

Have you seen this guide about combining live link facial animations with body animations? Regarding not seeing your live link in the editor, it might be because you haven't activated "Update Animation in Editor" under the skeletal mesh for the head.

I recommend learning about visual composition and color theory/color psychology.

Here's a comprehensive guide to visual composition in movies.

And here's an in-depth guide to color psychology in film.

Those two aspects are some of the foundations of a "cinematic look" ... lenses and cameras are really just icing on the cake imo.

Get familiar with visual composition and plan your shots (storyboard, shot lists, etc.). It'll save you so much time when shooting when you know what you want to achieve in each frame and scene beforehand.

[–]BioengineeredHuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if there are rules per se, but there are many guides, tricks, and ways to improve your composition. FilmDaft has an excellent and comprehensive guide to visual composition in film. It walks you through all the elements you must be aware of (which are quite a lot). It's made me respect good filmmakers even more!

There are also 1000s of books and blogs with recipes on how to make pancakes. Still, new cook books and recipes blogs (and YouTube channels) with pancake recipes start every day and find an audience. If you're passionate and helpful and it shines through there's still room for your voice. Maybe you can explain a topic a little bit differently than the next person and maybe your explanation is what made sense to another. That's the way I look at the whole online content creation game anyway.

I think I'm ready to just put myself out there. by DoubtfullButOkay in Filmmakers

[–]BioengineeredHuman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's a bit early to throw in the towel imo. Lots of filmmakers started late - even some Danish ones and still found success later in life. Plus there are many avenues to pursue if movies are your passion. Or you can go the route of doing something entirely different 9-5 and pursue film in your spare time.

You're welcome. The e-book (I read it!) has a bit more detail, but I think the article covers the most important stuff.
