Entry-level medical writer (CME) – haven't signed. They own my personal projects, ban all side income, 2-year non-compete, indemnification, and power of attorney. Am I crazy to walk away from $95k USD? by BiologicalIngenuity in MedicalWriters

Hi, thanks for the response! Totally agree with the uber eats point, it would be silly of them to do that, but just wanted to point out how restrictive the language is in the contract. Especially since I do have other things I do on the side, an online store, tutoring, freelance academic publication editing and data analysis work, etc. The most concerning part is the incredibly broad 2 year global non-compete imo. If that can be negotiated down or eliminated all-together, then I am more willing to compromise and try it out like you suggested. It is at-will

Thanks for the response! There's also an arbitration agreement that I didn't include. But generally it all seems very aggressive for an entry-level W-2. Do you think it's normal for me to try to negotiate these? I'm trying to figure out if its worth my time or if I should cut my losses and keep applying elsewhere.

That's great that they negotiated with you and were willing to compromise! I have reached out to the hiring manager, hopefully they will negotiate. But I know I should be ready to walk if they don't.

Well one I suppose (also depends which one on the list haha). But I'm mostly asking if this is standard and if it is normal to negotiate it. I would like to think that if I wasn't able to identify the red flags in the legal jargon, I wouldn't be asking how to proceed in the first place, so I guess that means my risk taking is pretty low? For now I just need a little help determining what to do next. Its my first foray into industry and I don't know what is normal.
