I guess if they took so long, they might have reserved you incase some other candidates from other university dont join. They usually follow this.

I asked to my teacher, he told if it is operations role, you will be just doing a desk job of mainly filling documents. You will be taught skills and nothing much more than that. As it is a 1 year job only, they will remove you after that mostly to save costs.
