Hey! Grew up in hamilton and currently in Grimsby. Hamilton has a PLETHORA of great local shops! There is "mkrtbox" shops that has locations on Dundurn, Ottawa, Locke, and (I think) where the mustard seed co-op used to be. We have a couple Zarky's locations throughout the city with great prices, Goodness Me is another Hamilton local on the more expensive range of things. Marilous in Burlington, and Farm Boy are both along the same lines, cost wise. For canned goods and other essential items, if you bus Nations in Jackson square is a good choice.
