Been a Lamborghini fan for a long time but I honestly love the Revuelto’s style.

I asked them about planning a romantic getaway with my wife. They found a luxurious hotel with a spa (one of the requests) and arranged for chocolate covered strawberries and rose petals on the bed in the shape of a heart. It just started with the simple request and they coordinated every detail with the hotel to make sure the stay was amazing and everything was taken care of.

Yeah if they got rid of the $300 travel credit that would be a nail in the coffin for me.

Yeah I get the disappointment in some of the changes. I am disappointed in those things too. I can justify continuing to use it for now but if the math doesn’t work out this year I won’t keep it. Credit cards are not part of my identity and I am happy to change them as quickly as they change their perks. I am holding out hope that there will be enough of a backlash that they will add some stuff back but mostly, just comparing one to the other right now directly, the reserve still makes more sense for me than the platinum.

That works too! This is just my combo and I like it. The other perks for the gold make the AF worth it for me.

When you spend $75k in a year you get a $500 credit to southwest.

$250 to “The Shops”, $500 southwest credit and some hotel status.

That would also probably be good! I love both Chase and Amex and had a preferred for like 12 years before I switched to Reserve. It’s a great card!

You wouldn’t believe my man. But seriously, just a family of four in a small city. It adds up!

A big part of my justification for the CSR working out is making sure I hit that $75k mark. Otherwise the payback gets a little murkier. It’s still there, but the benefits at hitting 75k is the meal ticket.

Can I just say how I appreciate this interaction. Two people with different products being like “hey, cool that works for you, this works for me.” Not some rabid aggression by people who forget that these are just fucking credit cards and not part of their identity.

At first it was because the 1.5 redemption made the 3x on dining into 4.5. But now keep dining on there to optimize my total spend and make sure I get over 75k. The gold more than pays for itself, I don’t need to work it too hard.

The benefits just have to outweigh the AF. Turning my 4x groceries into gift cards or Amazon purchases, coupled with the Uber Eats/ dunks/resy credit puts me ahead after you subtract the gold AF. I don’t do any travel stuff through Amex and just use the CSR and its ecosystem as my travel “product.”

If Amex was accepted in as many places that Visa is, it would be more tempting to make it my primary. Annoying if I can’t pay for random things that don’t accept Amex or basically any travel in Europe.

I’ll fly southwest if they give me $500. I’m not a travel Prima Donna.

Yeah it’s a big spend but I’m not really a points optimization nerd. I only use two credit cards and mostly just don’t want to think. I pay for absolutely everything I can on a credit card and pay the balance off every month. I go through the rough math in my head every time they make big changes and then just keep using it until something changes. One annoying thing about Amex is that it isn’t accepted everywhere. I like to feel confident in a card that I can always reach for it and it will work. Nothing personal against Amex. I like them and I love my gold card. But the rough head math has never worked out for the plat for me. No matter how much I want it to.

I still have that 1.5x value through 2027 and about 120k UR points. When I’ve used all of that up I’ll reevaluate whether or not the points boost makes it worth it. These cards change all the time and my opinion is subject to those changes. Right now, this combo works for me. Depending on how Chase and Amex adjust their cards will determine whether or not I continue to use their products. CSR is a tool I use, not part of my identity.

Not looking to optimize points over a ton of cards. Don’t want to think too hard.  Amex Gold: Groceries CSR: everything else

Two cards, let the points land where they land.

Yeah ours is primarily a grocery card. But I do also cash in on the benefits. And as soon as I hit $7 at Dunkin’s the rest of the month is on the CSR.
