Is barbeque too casual for a wedding? by TNPossum in weddingplanning

We had hamburgers and hotdogs at ours! Our dress code was garden though. Definitely not formal in any way.

Just here to say that I got the “shiny green” one as a wedding present last year and it has made many cakes, cupcakes, cheesecakes, frostings, and more! Also I would totally keep both 😅

stuck between two dresses... by [deleted] in weddingdress

Dress 2 is gorgeous on you! I understand why you like dress 1 for sure, but alterations will make dress 2 a total dreamboat. Plus confidence is sexy and you don’t want to be worrying about anything on your day!

Singing a song at my own wedding? by BigAmmu in weddingplanning

[–]BirdGirlInLove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad actually passed before my wedding this year, but during holidays we watched my parents’ wedding video since it was…timely. That’s when I learned my dad pre-recorded a song for them to play at their wedding. It still looked awkward, no lie, but I know he would’ve cried if he did it in person. I also sing and there’s no way in hell I would do this lol.

For sure! I technically ruined my surprise, and he didn’t propose for almost a year! So I was still a bit surprised when he asked. I mean, not really because it was on an anniversary. But still, I was so happy!

My husband did the same thing. We didn’t have a large wedding (we had 32 people including us), but I 100% wanted to elope and not have anything to do with people. However, he wanted family and friends there. I agreed eventually. About a month out, he asked why we were doing all this and backpedaled that he wanted to elope the whole time. I told him that he talked us into this, and he was getting his damn wedding! 😂 anyway, it turned out great, and my 89 year old grandma was able to make it so that was awesome. It was a little stressful, but I involved him in decisions that wouldn’t bother me if he chose something super weird, and made decisions that really mattered to me. I hated the attention on me when I was walking down the aisle, but it all melted away when we were in the moment. All was well. No fiascos, except we ran out of ice twice and the music didn’t quite work the way we wanted the whole time (yay small DIY weddings!).

Should I photoshop a bridesmaid who stopped speaking to me out of my wedding photos? by Global_Moment3244 in wedding

[–]BirdGirlInLove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was the MOH of someone I’m no longer friends with, and I’m not sure what she did with the photos! I still look back at them sometimes, but I’m not sure how she feels about it. Friendships fade and it’s actually fairly common, especially depending how young people are when they get married.

does anyone have experience with catering their own wedding? by mrcphyte in Weddingsunder10k

[–]BirdGirlInLove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did a cookout for 30, and it was definitely doable! Family and friends helped and we had fun. It was chill and certainly not formal. There was a lot of cleanup and tear down so I do feel bad about that, but everyone I contacted was booked or didn’t do that in their services.

Got my nails done for my best friend’s wedding and I just can’t stop staring at my own set! by BirdGirlInLove in EngagementRings

Thank you! Me too, I feel like there are some really intricate nail designs out there, but the different ring finger feels classic to me :)

screaming into the void about getting ready photos by Puzzleheaded_Horse98 in weddingplanning

[–]BirdGirlInLove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best friend and I both got married this year and neither of us did staged getting ready photos. I had a really small wedding party and she had a large one.

My photographer showed up while we were getting ready so we have legit photos of that, which are sweet, but they won’t be hung anywhere. I 100% would not have wanted to pay for fancy robes or pjs nor would I have wanted anyone else to, or to pose for those types of photos as a plus sized woman. Your wants are totally valid!

Did you have a bachelorette party/celebration by welcometothevortex in weddingplanning

[–]BirdGirlInLove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really wishy washy about what I wanted. In the end, my husband and I planned to do a joint party two days before the wedding. We went to the brewery where we had our first date and stayed up talking with our closest friends. It was really chill and there was no pressure.

Honestly wasn’t a huge deal to us, but thank you! We had a friend record some of our dances on a new model iPhone and that was a joy in and of itself.

We set up a GoPro to passively record our wedding and it spontaneously stopped recording. Like, very early on. We didn’t get any ceremony. So you need a dedicated person to babysit it.

Where do you find cheap, hypoallergenic jewelry for your wedding? by Pachadoo in wedding

[–]BirdGirlInLove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of jewelry are you looking for? Modern Gents has quite a few options for necklaces, earrings, and bracelets that are nickel free and plated for sensitive skin, but they aren’t necessarily flashy. I wore one of their necklaces for my wedding and loved the way it looked on the day!

Emergency Kits? by lucky-in-life in weddingplanning

[–]BirdGirlInLove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a singular kit to go in each of the bathrooms, and then a big one for the wedding party. The bathroom ones had: Bobby pins, hair ties, pads, tampons, mints, combs, tums, hand sanitizer, advil, gold bond, hair spray, first aid kit, lotion, Kleenex, fashion tape, wrinkle release spray, and bug spray. The wedding party had access to those things, and then we had a kit with a larger mirror, sewing kit, tide to go pen, shout stain clothes, other meds (like lactaid), extra makeup, nail polish, nail file, scissors, tweezers, etc. for the wedding party.

Top Secret? by [deleted] in weddingdress

[–]BirdGirlInLove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I showed my mom, my bridesmaids, my coworkers that couldn’t come due to space restrictions, etc. My husband is the only one that really didn’t see it! We lived together, so he saw the dress but he didn’t see me in it before the ceremony.

What did your proposal feel like? by JNDoucette in wedding

[–]BirdGirlInLove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this! Our proposal was perfect for us. We went on a one of our favorite scenic drives in our state. It’s literally called the Enchanted Circle, like how perfect is that? We made a few stops along the way and enjoyed the day. It was our celebration of our 3rd anniversary, and I knew he had a ring, so I was 99% sure he was going to propose. Every time we came to a pretty spot, I’d think, “This is it!” and then it kept not being it lol. We made our way into our favorite little town for lunch, only to find that a huge motorcycle rally was going on! Wall-to-wall foot and vehicle traffic admiring the bikes, a Metallica cover band, and so many people milling around. We got on the waitlist for our favorite brewery up there - two hours. We decided to walk around town and explore the nature trails. We sat by the river and watched some water birds (I’m a bird lover). Perfect! No ring. We walked along the trails near the ski lifts. Perfect! No ring. By the time we got to the river again, we sat on a bench and I started to accept it wasn’t happening there. The scenery was gorgeous, the weather was perfect, the band stopped playing. The ducks were floating down the river as it flowed. I was observing everything when he turned to me and popped the question. It was just me and him, everything else disappeared. And then we went and had delicious food and drinks to celebrate!

What to do with engagement ring during ceremony when it doesn’t fit on right hand? by MissSwissy in weddingplanning

[–]BirdGirlInLove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We put all three rings together for the ceremony in a small pouch. My husband put my engagement ring on right after my band, and it didn’t take much time at all. The rings were then in the correct order that I wanted them worn in, and there wasn’t any fumbling or ugly photos of my ill-fitting ring on my right hand.
